Pleasantville is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,746 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Trenton–Ewing, NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Pleasantville were Germans who had come to America prior to the American Revolution. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Delaware River and named it "Pleasant Valley". The original sawmill and gristmill were replaced by a more modern structure in 1892. Pleasantville was founded on October 11, 1881 by J. P. Morgan and his family as a small farming community about northeast of Trenton with just 10 residents. Morgan donated land for the town and $5,000 was raised from local farmers to build roads, schools, churches and other infrastructure needed for growth. In 1888 Pleasantville became township No. 2 under New Jersey state law and began receiving mail from outside of Morris County via horse or omnibus service before ZIP Code 08701 became available online in 1998. In 1902 Pleasantville erected its own two-story schoolhouse (now known as School House Lane School) which replaced an earlier structure that had been destroyed by a fire years earlier. Other early amenities included a Methodist church (1893), post office (1894), blacksmith shop (1902), store (1905), Germanlanguage school (1907), druggist store (1920) and three residences - one for Morgan family members and their families plus one for John Daugherty who had purchased land adjacent to the townsite from George Washington Vanderbilt II in 1916 - all still extant today within walking distance of each other across commercial areas located near Interstate 95/US Route 202/Delaware Avenue North). A series of floods reached Pleasantville on July 1, 1951 during Hurricane Andrea which caused extensive damage including loss of homes, businesses and barns; but despite this setback development continued apace with new shopping malls opening up around Trenton concurrent with suburban expansions into what is now southeastern Morris County such as Somerville Township to the south while adjoining Mercer CountyScopely annexed additional properties bringing current boundaries within sight of downtown Trenton complete with public works projects such as resurfacing I-95 between US routes 202 & 95 just eastside mile marker 2309 approximately 4 miles northwest of where Main Street crosses I-95 [still visible] making Pleasantville one large urban center complete with comprehensive public transportation options including Amtrak's Northeast Corridor rail line running parallel through town providing easy access both day & night 365 days per year right off I-95 immediate access also available via PATH bus lines running throughouttown offering Take Train service which stops right outsideTown Hall only minutes away

In 1814, Englishman George WashingtonClinton came to America with his family and settled in what is now Pleasantville. Clinton did not like living on an Indian reservation so he decided to move into town instead. Pleasantville reached its peak growth during World War II when many GIs moved there for work in munitions plants. However, this period of prosperity ended after the war when nearby factories closed down and workers lost their jobs. In recent years, Pleasantville has experienced growth thanks to its location close to Interstate 95 and Route 20A which provide access to both the city of Newark and other larger metropolitan areas. This has led to increased housing prices which have caused some residents difficulty afford basic needs such as food or shelter. Additionally, gentrification has occurred in neighboring towns such as East Orange and Caldwell which have driven up crime rates in Pleasantville while also displacing longtime residents who are unable or unwilling to leave their homes
Pleasantville was founded in 1795 by the Morris family. The town began as a small farming community, and soon became a center for industry. In 1827, Pleasantville was incorporated as a borough. In 1895, the borough changed its name to Pleasantville Township. The township was renamed to Pleasantville in 1957.
