The first settlement in Pleasantville was made on November 12, 1795 by George Washington and his party as they traveled from Huntingdon Valley to Trenton for an important meeting with the Pennsylvania Assembly. In 1824, John Pemberton established a gristmill here which became one of the largest mills in New Jersey. The mill was destroyed by fire on October 25, 1874. There have been several other small settlements throughout its history including "Pleasantville" (1875), "Downtown Pleasantville" (1908), "Lake Pleasantville" (1920), and finally "Bellevue Park" (2008). In 1876, James Waddell built a sawmill here which became one of the largest sawmills in America. The mill closed down in 1984 but reopened as part of a larger redevelopment project that included the demolition of many older buildings and replaced them with more modern structures. Today's Saw Mill Park features an exhibit about Waddell's life and business. According to the United States Census Bureau, Pleasantville had 5,848 residents at the 2000 census; this grew to 7,521 at the 2010 census. Its population density is less than those of any other municipalities within Mercer County save for Bellevue Park which has a much higher density due to its larger land area. According to Census data from 2006-2010*, Pleasantville's median household income ranks it #2nd behind only Bellevue Park*

Pleasantville is a town located in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 12,500 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1857 and named for General James K. Polk of the Union army who won the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. The first settler to arrive in Pleasantville was George Pipple. He and his family explored the area around present-day Pleasantville on horseback in 1857. On July 5, 1857, Pipple erected a cabin on what is now Fourth Street in Pleasantville. A year later he organized a company of men to build a road from Canandaigua to Rochester through present-day Pleasantville and used his home as headquarters until November 1, 1858 when he moved his camp to what is now Second Street. In 1860 John Fenton bought 110 acres (40 ha) nearpresent-day First Avenue and Third Street from Andrew Johnson for $2 per acre (1/10 ha). On January 8, 1861 Fenton sold two sections of land totaling 61⁄2 acres (24 ha) east of present-day First Avenue to Edwin Gurney for $5 per acre (1/4 ha). Gurney renamed the tract "New Jersey" after New Jersey's then Governor Horatio Seymour – an indication that he considered it part of Westchester County proper rather than part of Saratoga County which he had just purchased from Darius Warner three years earlier. This change would come about because it would be more difficult for people living within easy driving distance of Saratoga Springs or Oneonta to get their voices heard during county government meetings where decisions were made about things like land grants and courthouse building projects! On February 9, 1862 Gurney organized a group called "The East Side Emigrants" who set out from New York City with four wagons laden with goods they intended to purchase property within twelve miles (19 km) of Buffalo, New York Colony – though not all members reached Buffalo before they started experiencing difficulties along the way including getting help finding transportation and food supplies once they got there! They arrived at White Sands Lake on April 24 but quickly realized that there were no farms available nearby so they continued journeying northwestward instead encountering more difficulties getting into Canada without being detected by troops loyal to President Abraham Lincoln! In May 1862 they finally reached Fort Erie where they decided against purchasing any property because it seemed as though everyone else doing so had already done so! After some discussion and debate among themselves about whether or not to go ahead with what seems like an impossible task (!), some members reluctantly agreed to travel back downriver towards Niagara Falls only406 miles away but discovered that this route involved crossing over a river filled with rapids which could potentially have caused them serious injury if not crushed! They eventually found another route less traveled roundabout way –though one that did involve crossing over!). After spending several weeks inspecting various possibilities both southbound and northbound across Ulster Creek before settling upon turning back due mainly due to concerns regarding possible Indian raids along their journey –they arrived safely at Kingston on October 13th!!! Those new arrivals managed nonetheless To lay down twelve miles long & six wide striping fence line through scrub brush bordered by high woods running parallel & making travel very difficult except during those rare clear days when visibility extended beyond 100 yds (& sometimes much further!)….. By 1865 many homes had been built: North side 2 stories; South side 3 stories…. In 1865 Wm Hagee bought 320 acres adjoining White Sands Lake from Edwin Gurney for $8 per acre ($160 per ha). At this time all lots were measured by rods laid out perpendicular onto township lines……..Hagee also added 200 feet (−60 m)to each side OF public square forming today’s Elm Streets

The drill was conducted to teach local children how to survive during wartime. In 1951, Pleasantville became home to the first United States military installation in New Jersey. The base was used for training troops until it closed in 2001. Since then, Pleasantville has seen a number of changes. In 2006, the town voted to become an inter-communal township within Monmouth County and has since undergone several name changes including Garden City Township (2007), Princeton Borough (2008), and finally Princeton Township (2010).
