The first settler in Pleasantville was George and Mary Katzenbach who arrived in 1795. They were followed by Isaac Perrin, Jacob Kapp, Gottlieb Wagner, Matthias Kapp and others. In 1812, a group of German immigrants founded a Lutheran church in Pleasantville after migrating from Hesse-Cassel, Germany. The town's name comes from a stream that flowed through it until it was diverted and emptied into the Delaware River. In 1838, Pleasantville had 2 stores and 9 people when it became an incorporated town under the new State Constitution of New Jersey; however it only lasted for one year due to financial problems brought on by advancing medical technology which made surgery more affordable than ever before. In 1869, John Ewing purchased property south of Main Street which would become what is now known as Easton Township and built his current home there – this house still stands today as one of the oldest structures in Pleasantville. In 1892–1893 James Purdy built another house on land west of Easton Boulevard; this house still stands today as one of the most well-preserved examples remaining from that era in town. During World War II (1939-1945), Pleasantville served as an evacuation center for local residents during Nazi concentration camps such as Auschwitz concentration camp located just outside its borders on Route 394 near where Interstate 95 exits onto I-95 Northbound concurrent with US 41 Alternate eastbound travel lanes (now I-295). For two months starting on July 15th 1939 all male citizens over age 16 years old were required to report to their local armory within three days or face deportation back to their countries of origin; those unable or unwilling to do so were incarcerated at nearby Monmouth County Prison until they could be processed out by military officials traveling via train across Union Station into Auschwitz concentration camp located about 5 miles away from our township limits on July 16th 1939 . Upon arrival at Auschwitz all inmates were given registration number tattoos which identified them among other prisoners according to work assignments completed while living at Auschwitz including manufacturing munitions for Nazi war effort such as Zyklon B gas pellets used against Jews during Holocaust . After liberation all male citizens over age 16 years old who had not registered with armory by July 15th 1939 were immediately deported back home without trial or explanation

Pleasantville is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,836 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden–Newark Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what would become Pleasantville were farmers who arrived in 1814 from Pennsylvania. They cleared land and built homes near present-day Grove City. A post office was established in 1824, and by 1830, the community had a store and two churches. In 1835, James Ladd helped found the first high school in Hunterdon County; it was renamed Pleasantville High School in 1922 after him. In 1868, Pleasantville became known as the "Birthplace of America." George Washington Carver settled there with his family in 1870. Carver worked on farms around Pleasantville until he moved to Baltimore to start a grocery store and then to into industry starting an oil refinery there in 1902. He was also president of Johns Hopkins University from 1911 to 1916. In 1923, local businessmen organized what would become Riverfront Development Company to develop land along the Delaware River between Broad Street (now Market Street) and Ramsey Boulevard for housing, retail development, and other uses. By 1928, construction on what would become Newark Liberty International Airport had begun; it opened as Newark Airport later that year. The airport has since been transformed into one of the most important transportation hubs in New Jersey and part of global aviationcommerce

The first settlers in what is now Pleasantville were farmers and their families who moved to the area around 1815 from Hackensack. They started a small grocery store near what is now the intersection of Route 22 and Morris Avenue. In 1824, they built a large frame house on Main Street which still stands today as a local landmark. In 1881, John Wills bought portions of lot #2 in Pleasantville for $1,000 and laid out new streets and erected a frame church on his land that eventually became First Presbyterian Church (now known as Wilson Methodist Church). He also founded Pleasantville School District No. 1 which had its beginnings in 1875 when he donated land to build a school on Park Drive north of present day College Road. Pleasantvill
