The Plainfield shootings of May 6, 2018 were the deadliest shooting in New Jersey history. The victims were four people, two of whom were fatally shot by suspected gunman Nidal Malik Hasan. Hassan is believed to have killed himself after being confronted by authorities. Hasan had been a victim of domestic violence and had recently left his home in Plainfield for an undisclosed location, where he was to engage in a shooting rampage that would later kill four people and injure six others. On May 5, 2018, Hasan sent out a tweet containing images of guns and ammunition as well as instructions on how to make homemade explosive devices. On the morning of May 6, 2018, Hasan walked into one of the local high schools in Plainfield with his rifle and began firing at innocent students and staff members who had gathered around him inside the building. After killing two people outside the school before turning his gun on himself, Hasan's rampage came to an end when he was confronted by police officers who arrived on scene just minutes after he opened fire.
