The Plainfield optical equipment company was founded in 1907 by Augustus Day and his brother-in-law, George Fenton. The company produced a wide variety of products including telescopes, binoculars, microscopes, and opticalgayles. In 1925, the company merged with the nearby Westfield Optical Company to form the Plainfield/Westfield Optical Corporation. The merger led to the production of high-quality optical components such as lenses and mirrors. In 1978, the company merged with American Rayon Company to form American Rayon/ plainfield Optical Corporation.
Plainfield, New Jersey is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey. The population was 7,804 at the 2010 census. The town was settled in 1795 by James Butler and his wife Sarah Hackett. It became a village in 1857. The name of the town honor John Dickinson Plainfield who arrived from Holland in 1681 and donated land to the township for a public square and schoolhouse. The first post office was established here on October 15, 1857; it was renamed Plainfield on May 8, 1870. In 1875, the Township built its first block house - still standing today - as part of an effort to build self-reliance within its borders after experiencing repeated bouts of economic depression during the late 19th century. The most notable event in Plainfield's history occurred on November 11, 1938 when Nazi Germany invaded Poland and started World War II by invading Belgium and Luxembourg. Over 1 million Polish citizens were killed during the war while 2 million Belgian civilians were killed as well – making Plainfield one of the most heavily bombed towns in Europe at that time (the other being Dresden). After WWII ended, many refugees began streaming into Plainfield from all over Europe seeking refuge or resettlement – primarily Jews but also Roma (Gypsies), Poles and others deemed undesirable by Nazi authorities. In 1957, Plainfields first high school opened its doors to students; since then, our community has seen continual growth with several new schools added to our infrastructure over the years including: Stroud School District’s Shamrock School Campus whichopened in 2016; Delaware Valley Regional High School whichopened in 2018; as well as our newest addition – First United Methodist Church – whichopened earlier this year! The economy has been strong throughout these changes with businesses such as Patterson Paper Company having thrived for more than 40 years now employing nearly 200 people across 3 locations located near downtown (including a large headquarters building) providing much-needed employment opportunities for residents not only locally but also beyond our borders! With so many positive factors contributing to continued economic stability – including excellent quality education available here both online/offering continuing education courses through Kaplan University Online & nearby Muhlenberg College’s Continuing Education Department – we believe that we have what it takes to remain “The Place Where All Things Begin”!

Plainfield is a town in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 30,539 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Plainfield was David White in 1797. The town was founded on April 15, 1814 by Major General John Pemberton and Captain Nathaniel Greene as part of the township of West Milford. It became an incorporated borough on May 8, 1868. The center of Plainfield has been known for its flour milling industry since the early 1800s. A new flour mill was built in 1830 by Enoch Pratt and began operations that year. That mill continued to operate until 1948 when it closed due to diminished demand from the local market. The original post office opened on October 15, 1814 as "West Milford". It changed its name to " Plainfield" on February 16, 1865 after becoming an incorporated borough. In 1870, the Borough voted to annex what were then parts of Hackensack and Ridgewood townships into plainfield so that there would be one municipality with a more centralized government structure instead of four separate municipalities plus Hackensack and Ridgewood which each had their own mayors and councils with their own jurisdiction within their respective wards/townships/shires etcetera etcetera etcetera etcetera... In 1898-99 (or 1899?) Local Act No 9 created a school board which also included East Orange Township (now Glass Beach). On July 1st 1913 (certainty unknown) both boards merged as one entity - again without any public announcement or notification whatsoever! This happened despite no change having occurred in either organization's charter or bylaws since 1898! In 1924-25 there were two referendums held: One asking for annexation into Paramus Borough; the other asking for creation of a new borough - both resulted in majorities opposing incorporation into Paramus Borough! In 1934-35 another referendum was held requesting annexation into Englewood Township; this time also resulted in majority opposition!!!!!!!!! Finally in 1938-39 (!?) another referendum was requested regarding merger with Englewood Township - this time results were inconclusive but still opposed!!!!!!!!!!!!! back to prior situation!!!
Plainfield was founded in 1758 by Nicholas Plainfield and his family. The town became a township in 1834, and then a city in 1903. Plainfield is located on the southern border of New Jersey.
