With western Pennsylvania still under British control at this point, many people in northwestern Pennsylvania moved west into what is now Union County to join the growing Pennsylvania colony. Many young men who had followed their fathers into agriculture moved to northeast New Jersey in search of better opportunities than they could find back home – something that had already begun happening in eastern Pennsylvania thanks to new transportation connections created by Congress during the Revolutionary War. In 1801–1802 much of southeastern New Jersey seceded from Pennsylvania to become the United States while remaining within Union COUNTY because they felt that their rights were being violated as a result of congressional decisions about how best to serve both states together rather than just administer their parts separately as they saw fit. When New York City was founded on February 14th,. 1847 it included much territory previously belonging only to Pennsylvanian counties: Cumberland & Westmorland were added; Lancaster & Bucks were split; Monroe & Sussex were combined; Berks & Lehigh were added; Northampton was split off from Huntingdon county; Asbury Park was annexed from Bergen county; Freehold Township was absorbed into Essex county etc.; thus plainfield lost its share but not its name – it reverted back to "Union" after becoming an incorporated city with full municipal rights on May 5th,. 1911
