The history of firearms in Plainfield, New Jersey dates back to the early 1800s. At that time, the area was a thinly populated territory that consisted of many Native American tribes. The first firearms were made from natural materials such as animal horns and antlers. With the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825, trade increased between Great Britain and America, and gunmakers sprang up all over the country. In 1829, Plainfield residents petitioned for a charter which granted them a town government. On July 6th, 1830, Plainfield became the 10th town in New Jersey to be founded by act of Congress. The town was named after its original proprietors: Capt. Josiah Allen (owner of an extensive landholdings) and his wife Hannah Maynard Allen (née Clark). One of the earliest guns manufactured in Plainfield was an English musket known as “The Dolphin” which was used by Captain Josiah Allen during the War for Independence. The weapon had been brought over with Captain John Stevens when he arrived in America in 1794 aboard HMS Sandwich from London. After independence ended in 1783, many Americans traveled back home to buy weapons and ammunition on their return trips across the ocean. One such individual was Amos Ketcham who traveled to England to purchase two pistols (now known as Ketcham pistols) and several rifles before returning home on November 11th, 1784 aboard USS Constitution . Many of these new firearms were acquired through purchases or donations from local farmers or other individuals who could not afford them themselves. It wasn’t until 1827 that Major James Purdy purchased what is now known as Purdy Rifle Company from Joshua & Tryon Porter at auction in Philadelphia . This company produced rifles both centerfire rifle models called “Purdy carbines” and single shot shotguns called “Purdy shotguns” until 1850 . With so much demand for firearms coming out of America during this time period, it’s no wonder why some manufacturers began using imported parts instead of manufacturing their own products . For example, Sauer & Co., started producing handguns based on designs submitted by Johann Gottlieb Gassen while also importing Italian pistols into America beginning in 1829 . Gunmakers throughout New Jersey constantly experimented with different types of barrels and stocks due to advances being made within firearm design at this point . For instance, Driggs & Richardson built a barrel designed specifically for muzzleloadinginto existence starting around 1830 which allowed shooters to shoot games like cricket without ever having their barrels ruined by powder smoke

It is located on the eastern edge of the township and shares borders with Hackensack to the north, Middletown to the east, Paramus to the south and Westwood to the west. Plainfield was first settled in 1764 by English colonists as part of an effort to create a military post along Long Island Sound. The post was abandoned after only a few months and no settlers were able to find success in farming or trading while living under constant threat of Native Americans. In 1814, General Nathaniel Greene's army destroyed Fort Lee during the Battle of Princeton which ended British control over New Jersey. This event led to increased settlement around Princeton and Plainfield because now there was security from British troops stationed nearby. In 1825, Plainfield became part of Bergen County when it was formed from parts of Middlesex and Atlantic Counties. The town boundaries have not changed since then save for annexation by Paramus Township in 1951 which added an additional 3 square miles (10 km2). When Paramus Township erected its own high school in 1961, Plainfield students spilled out into neighboring townships like Hackensack and Middletown so that all students were served within one municipality rather than having separate schools for each township-a practice that continues today. In 2013-14, Plainfield officials completed a $3 million project called "Artificial intelligence village" which will feature state-of-the-art technology development studios downtown as well as art galleries/open space adjacent to them offering programming on various aspects of AI including robotics, machine learning and natural language processing etc.

In 1922 when Edison invented the electric light bulb, he donated one of his bulbs to use as the prototype for an early all-electric streetlight called laFayette Avenue streetlight that still remains operational today. In 1935 Plainfield became home to the first municipal golf course within reach of every household with access to gasoline-powered golf carts while also playing host to numerous state fairs throughout the summer months. By World War II, Plainfield had assimilated both American and European residents with little distinction remaining between them other than theirethnic backgrounds - most notably during World War II when Japanese Americans were interned here along with other minority communities such as African Americans who also lived near Newark Liberty International Airport at that time

Plainfield was founded by English colonists in 1676. The town quickly grew and achieved status as a major center of commerce. In 1824, Plainfield became the site of the first U.S. Census, which counted 11,812 people.
