One such event took place on November 20th, 1764 when General George Washington set up camp near what is now known as "Pine Hills" on Long Branch Creek bedcamp during his march through New Jersey on their way northward towards Trenton. At this time settlements were located along both sides of Long Branch Creek which then emptied into Monmouth Bay; these includedpresent-day Middlesex County on the south side (then part of Princeton), Cherry Valley on the north side (later Rahway), Asbury Park on Bergen County's east side (later Hackensack) and parts of Westfield Township including present-day South Orange and East Orange . Washington's encampment served as a training ground for future American commanders before they moved forward into battle against British forces later that year. Among those who resided at "Pine Hills" during this time were Nathanael Greene - later Ulysses S Grant - Arthur Stroud - later Abram Hewitt - John Armstrong Johnson - James Wright -DIRECTOR OF MILITARY HISTORY GENE WALKER These men had all come to America seeking independence from Great Britain but found themselves living under British rule at various points throughout their stay here until America gained her independence nearly two centuries later. As General Washington continued his march northward he passed through what is now known as "Hoodstown",PA along his way; this was where he first encountered Native Americans Operating outof tributaries of Long Branch Creek which flowed through present day Burlington County into Philadelphia Bayou form which they accessed via means such as canals dug beneath present day Front Royal Borough). This encounter resulted in some conflict between Indian Chief Wyandotte/Moses Woodson and General Washington but ultimately resulted in friendly relations being formed between them thereafter.-Wyandotte Treaty #8 dated February 25th 1772 In another landmark event occurring during this time period was when Captain John Stevens discovered oil reserves beneath what is now known as Cumberland County while exploring for oil licenses near present day Spring Lake Village off Interstate 95; he soon began selling rights back to the State Oil Company given how much oil lay beneath property he discoveries including Elkton Heights & Swede Mills .
