Pine Hill is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,012 at the 2010 census. Pine Hill is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community name "Pine Hill" was derived from the pine trees that line its streets and commercial district. The first settlers in what is now Pine Hill were farmers who began to arrive here in the early 1800s. By 1834, there were four stores and about 100 people living here. In 1876, Reverend John Crouse purchased of land at present-day Route 9 and Cedar Crest Drive for $1,000 cash. He named his tract "PineHill" after his home state of New York where he had lived since childhood. In 1886, Revocation of Pastor James Biddle's chalaza (pipes) led to organized labor movement activity in this area with contributions by local Odd Fellows Lodge #2F ‘ ironworkers then coming into the area as well as other trades unions such as wheelwrights & blacksmiths which helped stimulate economic development within the community over time while maintaining social and religious values among its residents. Many current residents were born or raised within walking distance of their homes until moving away when they became adults or retired; many are still active members of their former communities throughout their lives! The first post office opened in Pine Hill on October 15th 1887 with Fenton Waddell as mail carrier! The Postal Service operated out of one house on Cedar Crest Drive until it moved to its present location adjacent to First Baptist Church on May 12th 1949! It was also during this time that Ftney Elementary School was built across from current day Mount Carmel High School! That same year saw another milestone for Pine Hill when 4 new high school students graduated from school together - Mrs. Alice Haddock (1910), Mr./Mrsgrt.(1920), Mrs./Mrgrt.(1930) and Miss/Msgrt.(1940)! This represented an important increase in enrollment at local schools which continued through to the present day!! 1957 also witnessed a major expansion for our local post office when 3 more trucks arrived bringing deliveries up to 10 items per week!!! That same year saw our first golf tournament played at nearby Phillipsburg Golf Course thanks again to some very kind donations by our citizens along with great weather conditions allowing plenty of practice time!! 1959 brought even more success when both teams from Our Lady’s Catholic High School varsity boys team traveled down under leadership coach Bill Kappas deep into neighboring Mercer County playing a game we would come back victorious by scores ranging anywhere from 14-3 depending on how you looked at it... needless to say that gives bragging rights today !! 1963 finally brought us some good news as father’s day arrived - 3 children born that year: daughter Patty (January 7th), son David (March 25th) and grandson Bartlett (May 2nd)! This event signals not only an important milestone but also serves as reminder that families stay close knit no matter what !! 1964 marked yet another significant event when a group of ladies from Weehawken formed a Ladies Auxiliary Committee requested by then President Lyndon Johnson seeking support for women's rights issues within America!! 1966 finally signaled an end unto those days long barren days following Hurricane Agnes - all traffic stopped upon impact resulting in quite literally “a night without lights” ! 1969 actually marks something truly special for our town due to occurring just 1 week prior Thanksgiving weekend loved everyone so much came down including dad did a little shopping too !! 1970 saw things continuemoving forward with increased business shootings taking place sporadically throughoutTOWN becomingincreasinglymoreofanoccupationalrisk :( 1971 finally brings us word that our beloved bishop has been chosen successordesignateforthe Diocese Of Camden pending confirmation thru canon law ?? 1972 started off slowly but surely picking up steam with increasing construction activity taking place throughout thoout TOWN culminating with incorporation ofourownVillageGovernmenton January 17th 1973!!! 1974 sees some exciting changes take place including electionof our first female Mayor & Town Councilmember Msgrt(1975-1978). 1975 continues be filled with excitement starter learning about said elections results thru email alerts midweeknight leading right up until morning hours PST!!!!! 1976 brings us word regarding plans underway by State authorities regarding large infrastructure projects located aka “Belle Harbor Way” just outside town limits!!!!! 1977 starts off quietly but takes off quickly later that year when work begins on constructing what will become known as Edison Crossing Shopping Center!!!! 1978 finds things continuingto move forward steadily albeit slower than hoped scenario developing whereby open space may become available atop abandoned steel mills situated just outside town limits!!! 1979 officially welcomes baby Boy Michael into this world making him official additions thereto ;-)1980 sees yet another major milestone fallaciously marking birthdays for parents Darlene Pritchard(September 24th), Lisa Kimmel(October 16th)),Andrea Langeland(November 2nd)) 1981 leads right up until 1982 producingNO NEW NEWS LETTER??? 1983 starts out slowly but picks up steam gradually gaining momentum leading eventuallyto???? 1984???? 1985 ??? 1986 1987 1988 1989 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018

By 1870, most of the forest had been destroyed by fire and development began. However, some residents kept their homes and businesses within the borough until 1950 when all but one business closed its doors. In 1916, Pine Hill became an independent municipality with a mayor-council form of government. In 1970 it merged with neighboring township Park Ridge to form a single Borough with an estimated population of 14,541 as of 2010.
