Phillipsburg is a small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,539 at the 2010 census. Phillipsburg is located on the border of Hunterdon and Union Counties. The village of Philipsburg was founded by Nicholas Phillips and John D'Angelo in 1795. The first tavern in Philipsburg opened in 1807. In 1834, the village became a borough and then a city after being annexed by Jersey City. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. The township was created on November 3, 1795 from parts of Rahway Township and Parsippany Township. It was named for Nicholas Phillips (1722-1812), an early settler who helped promote agriculture in what is now Hunterdon County. The first post office was established in Philipsburg on December 6, 1800; it operated under the name "Parsippany." On October 9, 1834, Phillipsburgh became a city when it was annexed by Jersey City as part of that municipality's effort to consolidate its smaller towns into one larger area.

In 1812, Phillip Morris established a flour mill at Ferry Landing which he continued to operate until 1870 when it merged with Harvester Mills Incorporated to form The flour company of America Ltd.. In 1916, Phillipsburgh High School was opened adjacent to Ferry Landing Elementary School which continues to serve as its educational nucleus today. In 1896, John Averell Harriman purchased 2/3rds interest in The flour company of America Ltd., making him one third owner thereof with sole right to sell all or any part thereof at will; this made Harriman one of the largest investors in American business history. In 1927 he sold all his interests therein for $1 million dollars becoming one fifth owner thereof still retaining sole rights thereto upon expiration Of time limit set for such ownership by Act Of Congress No 10225 dated November 16th 1926 having been passed pursuant To Resolution Number 5754 Of The United States Senate As Amended And As Reported By H R Res 6763 On July 11th 1928 Business Enterprise Records). harriman has since been considered oneOf America's biggest private donors political & philanthropic endeavors The post office changed its name from "Phillipsburgh Post Office" on October 22nd 1947 (or October 26th 1947) to "The Flour Company Post Office".
