In 1984, John D'Angelo became Mayor after serving as Borough President for eight years from 1983-1989; he was also Director of Community Services for 22 years with experience working with senior citizens and children living below poverty lines since joining the city government as such effective January 1st 1978 Upon taking office John D'Angelo pledged to focus exclusively on economic development opportunities within the Municipality while ensuring that all residents had access to quality municipal services including open space and affordable housing through programs like Park Southfront Open Space/Homes & Jobs program which provides affordable housing connected to local parks across 2 blocks south facing Hwy 287

The Borough Council is made up of five council members who are elected at-large while Mayor Haggerty serves two terms with no term limit; Councilwoman Biondi has served since 2013; Councilman Mundy has serve since 2018; Borough Secretary Siegel will serve until 2021 after he leaves his job as CEO of Monmouth County Community College District 2
