Paramus, NJ is a city in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 27,746 at the 2010 census. Paramus is located on the Parsippany-Troy Hills line and is part of the Newark–Jersey City metropolitan area. The first guns were brought to Paramus by French Huguenots who had come to North America in 1664. In 1795, John Philip Sousa composed an American Military March based on a march he had heard from General James Wolfe during his battle with the British at Quebec City. This march became popular and was used as the theme music for The Adventures of Superman radio series beginning in 1951. In 1854, George Washington Carver settled in Paramus and opened up a grocery store which soon became one of the largest in town. Paramus also developed into an industrial center with heavy reliance on textiles and manufacturing until World War II when Westinghouse Electric Company moved its headquarters here from Pittsburgh after being founded there in 1879. One prominent resident during this time was Milton Berle who helped develop televised programming for CBS before moving to Hollywood in 1956 where he starred in several successful TV shows including The Apple Tree (1953) and Texaco Star Theater (1957). With Berle's death at age 88 earlier this year, Paramus becomes one of only two cities – along with Stroudsburg, PA – to have both Carver-owning households alive as well as active members of their community organizations since 2000 Paramus has experienced some significant redevelopment over the years; most notably its incorporation into Township government following local referenda conducted in 1965 and 1974 which allowed for growth within township boundaries while maintaining zoning regulations that limited development within certain limits Paramus has also been home to many high school sports teams such as football (Patriots), basketball (Lakers), baseball (Yankees/Red Sox), ice hockey ( Flyers ), golf (.410 apartheid speedway) and tennis (.500 amateur tourney circuit) . There are now numerous restaurants, bars and nightlife options available throughout town once again following decades of modest development .

Paramus was first settled by Europeans in 1686 as a small hamlet on the east side of Passaic River. The area now occupied by Paramus became part of Middlesex County in 1777. In 1814, Paramus was incorporated as a township under the name "Newark". The first store in Paramus opened on Pitman Avenue in 1865. By 1870, there were six stores and eighty-eight residents. All but one business closed during the Panic of 1893-1894 due to low prices for goods caused by paper shortages brought about by competitive railsliding within America's expanding railroad industry. In 1898, Paramus annexed what is today neighboring East Rutherford and began rapid growth that continues to this day; incorporation into Passaic County followed in 1912. Businesses increased rapidly with auto production starting up shortly after World War II and continuing through subsequent decades until passing away during economic recession in 2007-2009 which destroyed many jobs throughout New Jersey including those at Paramus' two largest employers: United States Steel (US) and American International Group (AIG). When AIG announced plans to closing its Elizabethtown plant following their bankruptcy filing, many people lost their homes as well as their jobs just blocks away from where they lived while companies like US Steel continued manufacturing without interruption or notice leaving millions behind with nothing to return home to except poverty stricken neighborhoods across town who watched their communities turn into ghost towns overnight while making barely any money off their once thriving businesses which used to contribute so much income back into society? What kind of message does this send when our biggest economy left our shoresKT not only did AIG have no consequences for our community but also many others throughout NJ had an opportunity to experience what happens when big company fails but declined or could not provide replacement jobs? Many people feel like these are very unfair decisions made by elected officials who seem more interested in lining their own pockets than helping constituents
Paramus, New Jersey was first settled in the 17th century. The Paramus area became part of the Dutch colony of New Netherland in 1624 and was renamed to Paramus after Sir George Paramus, an English gentleman who donated land to the colony. In 1681, the town of Paramus was destroyed by a fire that swept through parts of what is now Jersey City. The town’s population declined over the next few centuries, but it regained someusterity around 1800 when new settlements were established in the area. In 1814, Paramus Township formed from parts of Montville Township.
