It is the second most populous municipality in Middlesex County after Newark and the fifth most populous city in New Jersey. Paramus is located on the southern border of both Middlesex and Essex counties and its eastern border is formed by Route 9A which connects it to Pompton Lakes and East Rutherford.
Paramus, New Jersey is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 26,762 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Newark–Jersey City Metropolitan Statistical Area. Paramus is located on the east bank of the Hackensack River and straddles the border of Bergen County to its south and Passaic County to its north. The earliest reports suggest that Paramus may have been settled by Native Americans before European contact. In 1714, John Woolridge, an American Revolutionary War soldier from Paramus Township in Bergen County claimed land grants from King George II of Great Britain for himself and his family along with other settlers in what are now Uniontown Township and Ridgewood Borough. The first white settler in Paramus was Isaac Bowman who arrived here from England in 1802 as part of a group led by Peter Kappelhoffer which also included Hennepin Avenue founder Nicholas Latham. Bowman owned 640 acres (248 ha) near today's Main Street and he built a small cabin there known as "The Bowman House". He also developed some acreage around present-day Willowbrook Park into what is today called "Bowman's Woods". In 1809, Stephen Clark – another early resident – purchased 9 acres (3 ha) at what is now Canal Road for $5 per footSolderedtogether planks he had fashioned from logs salvaged from nearbyriverboats." Paramus began formally Settlement processes on November 6th 1824 when Reverend John Fenton arrived with his wagon train to survey new land grants for prospective settlers within Bergen/Passaic Counties Land Office District No. 2D located at 5th & Market Streets - this was soon followed by Reverend James White arriving December 12th 1825 with his group surveying land grants for residents within East Rutherford Township - these two pioneers were instrumental in laying the foundation for our community today! The first town meeting took place on March 3rd 1830 under the leadership of Samuel Latham who chaired the meeting! On May 4th 1830 meetings were held at various locations throughout Bergen Town Common including: The Bowman House (now Main Street), ontario Place (now Parker Avenue), South Ferry LightHouse or Ferry landing where boats brought passengers across Hackensack River to Englewood; Dutch Evangelical Lutheran Church Third Congregation Aldermen’s Meeting Room on Morris Avenue between Summit and Orange streets; Stonington Presbyterian Church on Dickinson Avenue between Livingston and Essex avenues - all meetings were open to everyone regardless of social class or religious affiliation! On September 16th 1830 an act was passed authorizing development of West Side lots west of Route 1A including North Ferry Landing where boats brought passengers across Hackensack River to Englewood; current day Orange Street between Summit and Irving avenues - this area would later become home to our most famous business district – Paramus Valley Mall! In January 1831 Reverend John Fenton returnedpackingawith 20 poundsof dynamiteto blow up job offers received from local landowners! This action helped start what has come to be known as "Paramus Explosion" which destroyed several homes and caused significant damage resulting in over 100 injuries!! The township formalized government operations with its own set of ordinances dated February 15th 1832 when selectmen voted unanimously “To form a Court” under Selectman Captain Elisha Goode’s direction!! This court would eventually hear civil cases such as trespass, libel etc., but primarily handled criminal prosecutions!!! In 1850 approximately 50%ofthe population lived below poverty line while only 10% did so during 1960 !! Today about 60%of our population lives below poverty line while only 30% does so during 1990 !! These trends can be directly attributed to education opportunities available here through public schools ??!" Paramus formed part of Middlesex County until 1965 when it became section 8 territory within Bergen/Passaic county following passage of Pennsylvania statehood legislation that year. As part of section 8 status it experienced some economic hardships due to lack access to basic services such as healthcare, education and transportation which continues into present day. However due diligence by local officials over many years has resulted in steady improvement since then despite continued challenges faced by Paramussians ! WhenBergen/Passaic county merged into New Jersey system effective April 27th 1998 paramus achieved full municipal status pursuant thereto !! All outstanding Bonds & Acreage transactions prior thereto remain subject matter thereof!!"

Paramus is a borough in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 21,521 at the 2010 census. Paramus is part of the New York City metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Paramus were the Mahoning Indians who occupied the land between 1814 and 1818. The first European to explorer and settle in this area was James Pemberton who arrived on October 3, 1795 from Pennsylvania and named it after his home village of paramus, England. He built a tavern on what is now Elm Street and named it Pemberton's Tavern after himself and his family. By 1800, there were at least 12 families living in Paramus Township with 150 households. In 1814, Nicholas Brady bought 640 acres (240 ha) of land east of Newark River from Robert Morris for $7000 Dollars which became Paramus Township. On December 1st of that year he laid out a road through his lands called "The Paths of Peace" or "The Wilderness Road". This route still exists today as Second Avenue which runs parallel to Route 9 South near where it crossed the river. In 1846 Samuel Monsey purchased 640 acres (240 ha) further north from Brady for $4000 Dollars which became part of Hackensack Township boundaries when Hackensack Township was created by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 14th, 1846 From this point forward all townships had numerical boundaries rather than individual landowners having them surveyed by surveyors only then setting out limits for their respective townships thereby providing uniformity throughout the state . When Bergen County was formed on April 14th, 1912 its residents voted to create their own townsquare located at 585 Main Street in downtown Paramus with streets running south-southwest from central square thence east-northwest to 585 First Avenue then south-southwest along First Avenue to Main Street . On July 15th 1913 Citizens' Committee placed an advertisement in The Journal Times requesting proposals for site selection for their new townsquare location stating that they desired "a place where may be found all classes Of People together". A group led by Irving Kapp announced themselves as founders ofParamus Borough Council on November 19th 1915 followed by inaugural meeting held December 6th 1915 under auspices of Borough Mayor Gertrude Wirth with Vice President Harry Leland serving as moderator . Townsquare would eventually be renamed Borough Park following ratification by voters in 1922 passed via referendum administered by respected pollster George Hildebrandt

Paramus had a population of about 100 people when it became a borough in 1898. In 1957, the borough merged with neighboring Edison to form Union City.
