The Palisades Park area of New Jersey was first settled in the early 1700s by English colonists. The Palisades, a series of high cliffs located near the entrance of Passaic County, were purchased by John Thomson in 1764 from the remnants of an ancient Indian settlement. Polk sent troops to fight at Monmouth Junction after learning that British forces had landed there. The battle led to the surrender of General Howe's army and the end of America's war with Great Britain. After independence was established, Congress decided that part of New Jersey should be allotted to Pennsylvania in order to provide for its internal development. From 1821 until 1844, Palisades Park was administered as part of Bergen County. On April 15, 1844, as part of a broader reorganization of New Jersey government, it became part of Hunterdon County and remains so today. The first settlers to arrive in what is now Palisades Park began arriving around 1700 because it was one of several areas where land could be purchased from Native Americans for £2 per acre (Approximately $160 per square mile). The area around present-day Palisades Park consisted mostly forested hills and mountains which made for difficult terrain for farming purposes; however, there were some small coves and ponds that provided potential farmland with suitable ground coverings. By 1800 some 200 people lived within what is now Palisade Park boundaries; however most residents traveled further away to find work or live closer to family members who had set up homes hereabouts. In 1764 John Thomson acquired 400 acres (about 12 km²) including present-day Pulaski Heights from Sayre tribe members following their defeat at Battle Of Raritan against George Washington’s Continental Army forces under Major Genesee Clinton on September 11th rs1763; this purchase included parts or allofpresent-dayPalisadetheatreandparkland westofthecliffs overlookingthe Passaic River valleyFROMTHE PALISADES! Thomson also founded Bear ’n’ Boy Tavern on these lands which still stands today – becoming one of Hunterdon County’s earliest taverns and an important tourist destination throughout its history Beginning in earnest about 1800 various farmers started moving into this region along with their families; many coming down from Hackensack via Rahway through Morris Plains before continuing on eastward through Bethlehem Township into Somerset County . By 1850 only 3 out OF MANY residences located within present day Pulaski Heights remained unoccupied as more landowners took advantage OF THE OPEN SPACE FOR habitation! This trend continued until AFTER THE GREAT SANDS FALLS FIRE IN1895 destroyed vast tracts OF HUNTERDON COUNTIES agriculture!!! Only THEN did numerous new homeowners move INTO PALLASDALE PARK BECAUSE AND WHEREVER HOUSING WAS AVAILABLE WITH PREMIER CLIMATE CONTROL ESTABLISHED BY NEW JERSEY GOVERNMENT
