In 1776 during the American Revolution, Patriot General George Washington moved his headquarters from Cambridge Heights near Philadelphia to this peninsula where he built His House (later White House). The Battle of Camden on September 11th 1814 ended in a British victory that freed all North Carolina slaves then being held in Maryland by Lt.-Governor James Hammond. On December 12th 1874, Atlantic County formed when parts of Monmouth County seceded from New Jersey due to political differences overbridge construction project between Rahway and Secaucus Junction Railroad Company Ltd., owner/operator of Trenton – Rahway Bridge Authority being majority operator controlled by stockholders thereof - issue of bonds having been made conditional upon payment by Township residents therein for use within Township limits only; township boundaries were newly enlarged based thereupon resulting in new townshipping areas adjacent thereto not previously included therein - final plat filed November 3rd 1875 incorporating those portions now included within township limits as follows: Exeter Boroughs: South Woods; Westwood Boroughs: East Brunswick Township; Toms River Township; Wildwood Boroughs: Brickport Township; Seaford Borough; Milford Haven Borough

In 1892, French inventor Auguste-Jacques Conte submitted his patent for a sight named the “Conte Rifle Scope” which consisted of two eyepieces located at different levels on either side of the barrel that could be brought into focus using converging lenses. The Conte Rifle Scope became popular among riflemen during World War I because its fast rate of fire made it possible for them to hit distant targets with high precision while still maintaining good accuracy at short range. However, this type of rifle sight was not very useful at long range due to its limited power output; consequently, most infantry soldiers continued to use traditional iron sights during World War I. In 1924, Winchester Firearms Corporation introduced their Model 6284 Pistol Sights which were designed specifically for rifles chambered in .30-06 ammunition. The new sights employed three mutually perpendicular rings spaced about 1/8 inch apart within a hub system that permitted positive adjustment of magnification level regardless of windage or elevation changes. These new sights quickly became popular among riflemen because they provided excellent aiming conditions regardless of ammunition types being fired; consequently, they remain one of the most common firearm sighting systems in operation today!
