The inventor of the gun light, Augustus Earle Wainwright, lived in Ocean City at the time and is credited with inventing one of the first firearms to use a red light bulb as a aiming device. His invention became known as “the Earle Wainwright Gun Light” and was used by law enforcement officers in Ocean City for many years until it was replaced by current day flashlight technology. The early days of gunlights were not without controversy. Initially, some believed that they could be used to shoot people instead of helping law enforcement officials provide safety during raids or investigations. However, over time this belief began to change as more and more people started using gunlights for their own personal protection. Today, gunlight usage continues to grow within our community – both among police officers and citizens alike – thanks in large part to advancements in technology that have made these devices so easy and convenient to use.

On July 10th, 1814, Congress passed an act which gave Ocean City to George Washington as part of his gift for his victory at Saratoga Springs in that year's battle between American forces and British troops under Lieutenant-General Sir Henry Clinton. At its peak during World War II (1939-1945), Ocean City had a population estimated at 100,000 people; however due to wartime relocations (including many people who left because they could not support themselves) only 506 people lived there at any one time during that period
