Instead, companies continued to use traditional production methods until the late 1930s when they began using mass-produced components made by other manufacturers in their products

The township was created on February 11, 1784 from portions of Rahway and Orange counties. It borders Freehold Borough to the north-east, Edison City to the east-south-east, Harrisonburg Township to the south-west and Perth Amboy Township to the west-north-west. Its total area is 27 square miles (72 km²). The history of Oakland begins with its initial settler arrivals who came overland from North America in 1624. These were Protestant refugees from religious persecution in Europe who found their way into what is now upstate New York Territory under Governor John Winthrop during his Puritan migration effort which began in 1597. During that time frame many settlements were made along what are today's Routes 9A and 9B between Albany and Syracuse; these routes served as trade corridors between regions near and faraway including eastern Long Island Sound as well as upstate New York Territory which lay beyond those boundaries at that time. Many early settlers arrived through land grants granted by George Washington; these include such sites as Middletown (now Ringwood), West Deptford (now East Brunswick) and Millburn (now Woodbridge). By 1800 there had been over 12,000 European immigrants living in Newark alone while more than 100 villages had formed throughout western New Jersey along Route 9A/9B/. Numerous farms dotted rural areas within our boundaries - some still extant today including Apple Valley Farms near Woodbridge Ferry Bridge Toll Road intersection; Crystal Lake Farm north of Spriggs Avenue Toll Road interchange; Lakeside farm south of Ironton Avenue Toll Road intersection; etc., all long since gone but associated memories remain for those who lived them down memory Lanewaysgone . Some early residents also founded schools such as Oaklands Academy located on present day Clay Street just east of Raritan River crossing immediately adjacent to Egg Harbor shipyard where timber was harvested for ships during those days prior to plastics production being established nearby later on
