The origins ofOakland'sGun Culture can be traced back to at least 1853 when two entrepreneurs named John Smedley and Jeremiah Wertheimer founded an ammunition company in what is now downtown Oakland. Located on 11th Street between Market and Franklin Streets, their company was responsible for manufacturing both muzzleloaders and pistols for American soldiers serving in Mexican War (1846-1848). After independence from Mexico was gained, American troops began returning home with large quantities of weapons which they needed to arm themselves against Indian attacks. As demand grew for firepower among American soldiers, Smedley & Wertheimer opened up another ammo business on Telegraph Avenue south of Howard Street which functioned as an arms depot until 1855 when they sold their interest in the business to Edward Haggerty who renamed it "Haggar & Sons". From here on out, Haggar & Sons became one of America's leading manufacturers of firearms including rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers. The company also churned out impressive numbers of small arms cartridges which helped make rifles such as the Springfield rifle popular among law enforcement officials and civilians alike across North America during the 19th century. In 1882, entrepreneur George Haggar purchased Haggerty's share in his father's company and kept it going as Haggar Arms Corporation until his death in 1944; effecting a stir within industry because he had been able to keep key assets while other businesses folded or went bankrupt during wartime times (e.g., Winchester Repeating Arms Company). During World War II (1939-1945),Oakland saw an influx of people from Nazi Germany due to heavy German military presence throughout North America (Auschwitz concentration camp was located just east of town). Many Newark residents decided to move into Oakland during this time since many jobs were available inland but soon realized that there were no restrictions on owning firearms within city limits; particularly after Gestapo raids occurred resulting in neighborhood loss/damage potential . Consequently , Gun Owners Association members quickly organized meetups throughout neighborhoods adjacent to City Hall where anyone could bring any type firearm they desired without fear Of getting raided or worse . So long as you didn't have your weapon Registration card doctored or expired you were generally fine however if someone did show up with illegal weaponry then things got pretty heated pretty fast ....

The city was founded in 1792 as Newark and incorporated as a city on February 24, 1847. Newark and its surrounding areas were burned by the British during the American Revolution. The present-day City of Oakland was established in 1871 when portions of Newark were annexed to the new city. The first post office in Oakland was opened on December 4, 1792 by Major John Stevens with the name "Newark." On November 29, 1800, Newark received a Donation from Nicholasnotice for $2 which gave rise to the name "Newark" being applied to all parts of town save one — that part which bore the donation name "Bayonne." In 1807, Newark changed its name to Oakland after General James Pemberton's invasion force burned down much of what is now Hudson and Bergen Streets in River Edge Township (now East Brunswick). When America gained independence from Great Britain on July 4th, 1776, many people fled British rule including many members of the Newark community who had taken refuge within America's borders. Many residents who remained behind started construction on what would become what is today known as Downtown Oakland - an area which included but wasn't limited to Broadway between Broad and Market Streets; Telegraph Road between 8th and 9th Streets; Howard Street between Harrison and 10th Streets; Masonic Square between 1st and 2nd Streets; Spanish Park north of 12th Street; University Avenue east of High Street; Lafayette Boulevard south side from High Street/8th Avenue into Asian Landfill (now MacArthur Park) - all before it became Chinatown or any other acceptable names for downtown sections then existing along First street westward from Market until 14th streets northward from First Street (later renamed Jackson Square), this region being bounded thereby by West Side Highway east thereof to newly acquired South side lot belonging also formerly belonging thereto now parcel comprising also part thereof lying within limits aforesaid bounded also by Rutgers University campus Lots No. 205-206 inclusive thenceforth known as Rutgers University Campus Extension lot No. 207 northeast corner thereof extending thence northerly about two rods past South Side Highway easterly about one rod beyond said university lots being contiguous therewith with old lots lying within Limits aforesaid whitherto Lot No. 204 adjoining thereto lay prior mentioned extending northerly about two rods past South Side Highway easterly about one rod beyond said university lotsbeing contiguous therewith old lots lying within Limits aforesaid whitherto Lot No. 203 adjoining thereto lay prior mentioned extending northerly about two rods past North Side Highway easterly about one rod beyond said university Lotsbeing contiguous therewith old lots lying within Limits aforesaid whitherto lot no 202 adjoining thereto lay Prior mentioned extends Northerly About Two Rods Past NorthSideHighwayEasilyAboutOneRodBeyondUniversityLot

The first European to see and map Oakland was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 when he noted "the great bay that separates us from Staten Island" and named it after his home village of Verrazzano on the Italian island of Sardinia. In 1692, Englishman John Smith discovered and mapped what would become Newark/Newark Liberty International Airport while still exploring North America. At this time, Newark was known as Paterson because its founder, George Paterson had moved there from Gloucester County in 1701. Paterson's move may have been inspired by his experience as an owner of land near Trenton which became the scene of a skirmish between British forces and Dutch settlers in 1664 during the early history of American independence. The area now comprising Oakland was taken under Dutch control following their defeat at the Battle of Monmouth Court House on July 13th, 1676. A group of Englishmen led by Samuel Colt purchased overran Dutch territory northeast of Trenton and then began developing it into what is now Oakland proper as part of their colony called Bergen Township (later rename Passaic). The first house built in what is now Oakland came about through a grant from Nicholas D'Ancona to John Hackett in 1786-8. In 1802-3, a canal was opened that connected Hackett's farm with those around present day Downtown along First streets southward to where they met up with Broadway eastward to form I-75 today about two miles northwest of downtown; this made possible easy access for goods arriving or departing from points east and west across Orange Avenue downtown onto I-75 just north of Raritan Boulevard today’s Coliseum Complex (formerly Livingston Arena) until only Terminal 3 remained open along with some small stores on Broadway before Coach Terminal reopened completely adjacent to Terminal 2 later becoming Home Depot also located adjacent to both terminals BART also started service outbound via EAST Barnstable Ave./Uptown Square BART Extension opened connecting Pleasant Plain with Fremont/Lakewood via 4 stops including Walnut Creek which developed into Pleasant Plain Village eventually annexed by Hayward according to East Bay Times article dated Nov 26th 2009 approximately 7 years ago; however redevelopment has taken place since then resulting in much loss or displacement so please refer below for more information In 1870 Census records show that there were 204 people living within walking distance...This increased rapidly starting about 1890 when developers subdivided old farms into lots Large scale suburban development occurred throughout post World War II decades primarily due away from Downtown areas making it difficult if not impossible for residents formerly living close together especially African Americans who constituted most minority groups prior thereto Many African Americans fled riots & poverty ensuing joblessness & depression consequent crime rates soared among many high school dropouts offspring moving out seeking opportunity also left behind large amounts affordable housing stock continues highempty factories& warehouses blighted neighborhoods

On May 12, 1850, the township of Oakland was merged into the newly created City of Newark.
