North Plainfield, New Jersey is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,868 at the 2010 census. North Plainfield was incorporated as a town on March 17, 1876. The name of the town comes from "north" of where the first post office was established in 1814 and "plainfield" because there were no trees in abundance until after the turn of the 20th century when farmers began to clear land for crops. The original village had a small school and store located on Market Street. In 1881, an addition to the village (known as East Village) was built at what is now Second Avenue and Route 9 south of Main Street. In 1906, an addition (South Village) was built east of Market Street between First and Second Avenues which became home to a large Methodist Church and other businesses. The last annexment (West Village) took place in 1958 when part of South Village became home to West Valley High School while part of East Village became home to PlainFIELD Middle School which still operates today as one of Morris County's oldest public schools

North Plainfield is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 23,521 at the 2010 census. North Plainfield was formed from the towns of Plainsboro and South Plainfield on February 14, 1836, based on the results of a referendum held that day. The first president of North Plainfield Township was Thomas Greenough. The name "Plainsboro" originated with an Indian battle fought near what is now the intersection of Route 9 and Route 22 in 1802 between the Shawnee and Wyandot nations. At that time, parts of Middlesex County were divided among British colonies as part of the Treaty of Paris following the American Revolution. The area through which today's Northeast Corridor runs became part of New Jersey after Confederation in 1781. As early as 1686 (the year before English settlement began), Native Americans were living around present-day North Plainfield Township and Plainsboro Borough (now South Plainfield). In 1734, James Forde purchased land west ofpresent-day Hillsborough Avenue from Nawwabakeenonottawa for £120 payable in goods he had brought overland from Canada with his French wife and family. Forde named his new township "Plainsboro". On March 12, 1735, during British colonial times when townships were created by royal charter rather than by vote or consent from residents within their boundaries (a practise known asTownship formality), Plainsboro took its first official steps towards becoming a borough when votes were cast to create a borough committee to manage local affairs including electing officers such as sheriff and treasurer; however this committee did not come into being until April 3rd following another vote to annex neighboring Plankstown into plainsboro Borough despite objections from some members who felt they should retain their own governance style with all power vested within themselves only . By 1768 there were five villages located within present-day Middlesex County – Bedminster, Bordentown (now Burlington), East Brunswick Township (now Haddam), Plumstead Village (now Sayreville) and Westbury – each administered by its own village committee appointed by its respective governing body(s). It was not until 1800 that Plainsboro received township formality incorporating all six villages plus two newly annexed ones: Hillsborough Ave., now Springfield Ave., east thereof became part of East Brunswick Township on November 1st 1800 while Westbury Isle/Isleworth became part of Plumstead Village on December 15th 1800 . From then until 1860 when it lost territory to Camden upon incorporation into Camden City proper , Plainsboro experienced little growth apart from natural increase; consequently, few structures remain dating back to those years other than onesmithy building erected in 1827 at Meeting House Road which still stands today
The North Plainfield Township, located in the eastern section of New Jersey, was formed on February 14, 1764. The township was named for Captain John North who served as a militiaman during the French and Indian War. At its incorporation, North Plainfield had a population of only 133 people.
