In 1825, two brothers - Abraham Morse and Solomon Morse - started a tannery in what is now Downtown Newark which became one of the most successfulTanneries in America during its early years. The townspeople soon started to build their own homes; some even building brick houses out of large logs that they salvaged from nearby forests or bought from local farmers who had lost their land due to development policies at the time. The growth of this Tannery resulted in increased demand for lumber which led to more mills being built throughout Northeast Jersey as well as an increase need for workers for these new mills - something that helped keep many small communities alive during difficult times periods like the Revolutionary War or during Reconstruction following that period when race riots occurred across America caused extensive damage/losses among businesses owned by African Americans such as those found near Philadelphia's Broad Street vicinity known then as "the Ghetto". In 1892, Morse Bros., tannery went bankrupt due to economic conditions but later reopened with help from state government through legislation called "The Morrisons Act" which provided financial assistance towards small businesses struggling during tough times while also encouraging entrepreneurship amongst private entrepreneurs within New Jersey through tax breaks along with investment capital available through state government-sponsored enterprises called " Corporations Law." This act also helped spark Bethlehem Steel Corporation into existence as one of America’s earliest steel companies – a company still extant over 125 years later! From this start came numerous additions toNorth Plainfield’s central business district including: First National Bank & Trust Company (1896), Rutgers University College Of Engineering & Applied Science(1910), Newark Day School(1926), American Legion Post #527(1939), Midtown Mall(1974)--to name just a few! Today much remains unchanged since these days nearly 125 years ago; including both downtown districts' sizes (~500,000 sq ft+) average mix of housing types (~85% single family homes/15% condos/5% apartments/10% mixed use buildings)& high concentration (>50%)of job opportunities within easy reach--reflecting continued positive trend throughout community’s history
