On December 3, 1795, George Washington was sworn into office as the first President of the United States with a musket. The United States Gun Act of 1871 defined all firearms as “pistols and revolvers” which meant that rifles and shotguns were not allowed to be imported into the United States. This law did not take into account the fact that Americans had been using handguns for centuries. In 1892, an ordinance was passed by North Plainfield Township Council which prohibited handgun ownership within township limits. This ordinance was repealed two years later because it did not meet with approval from township officials. In 1907, a new ordinance was passed by North Plainfield Township Council which created a registration system for handguns. This ordinance also required all handgun owners to register their handguns with the town clerk before they could possess them. The registration system remained in place until 1959 when it was repealed due to lack of enthusiasm from town officials. Between 1922 and 1945, there were a total of 46 gun accidents in North Plainfield Township caused by individuals who had unregistered handguns or failed to keep them secured during storage periods. These accidents resulted in four deaths and nineteen injuries. In 1958, North Plainfield Township became operational as a city through an act of state legislatures amendments #527 and 536 respectively authorizing the creation of municipalities within Morris County without prior unanimous vote from both chambers of the legislature (Senate and House). As a result of this change in government, village status for North Plainfield changed from agricultural community to municipal jurisdiction on July 1, 1958 effective immediately! As part of this transition process many public works projects were undertaken such as streetscape improvement; water main replacement; sewer line replacement; street paving; lightening/power plant relocation; project management software installation/ operation etc.; among others! Since then there have been numerous updates/constructions including: firestation renovations (2009-2015); redevelopment (2012-2014); police station renovation (2011-2015); new elementary school construction project (2013-2017); reconstruction work on old high school building (2018-present).

In 1838, a man by the name of Nicholas-Jacques Conte bought land in what is now North Plainfield. This land included a cabin named "Henniker's Cabin". The first thing Conte did when he got his property was build a gunsmith shop on it. This shop became known as the "Nicholas-Jacques Gun Shop". In 1845, another man by the name of George Stephenson purchased land in what is now North Plainfield. He also bought a gunsmith shop called the "George Stephenson Gun Shop". In this shop, people started buying and selling firearms. Some of these sales took place between individuals and companies, while others took place within government agencies such as the military or law enforcement. By 1865, gun shops had become very popular in North Plainfield due to their ability to provide many different types of firearms with ease. Additionally, they had become extremely popular among civilians because they could be used for both personal protection and hunting purposes.
North Plainfield, New Jersey is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 23,580 at the 2010 census. North Plainfield is part of the Newark–UMD Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "north plainfield" originated from an area near what is now downtown North Plainfield and began to be used as a location for farms and other landings because of its good soil quality. The first permanent settler in what would become North Plainfield was John Pemberton in 1755. In 1814, the Township of PlainFIELD was created from parts of both Union Township and East Brunswick Township. In 1868, a new township called Plainsboro was formed from areas east of where North PlainFIELD now stands. Plainsboro became part of Camden County when Camden County was created on December 14,1868. On July 1st 1870, Plainsboro incorporated as a city with a population of 10,000 people under the guidance of Mayor John Blythe (1811-1920). Pleasantville received its start on October 15th 1876 when two men named Ladd and Norris bought 3 acres (1 km²) north of present day Pleasantville Avenue for $5 per acre (2/3 share). They named their farm Pleasant Valley after their home country – England – in honor of their father who had died while serving in India during the Indian Rebellion OF 1857 against British rule. It wasn't until 1925 that they added another acre (0.8 km²) to make up present day Pleasantville Avenue which came about because they were offered 502 feet (.152 m) by one Mr Kappelman to build a road along his property westward from his house across Spring Garden Road into what is now known as Pleasantville Boulevard! By 1926 there were over 100 homes in this new settlement which grew rapidly due to high demand for agricultural land between Newark and Hackettstown thanks to two big developments happening simultaneously: The Edison Manufacturing Company's plant down South Broad Street which produced radios and phonographs; also(&still today), Westinghouse Electric Corporation built four major electric plants starting with their Anschutz Tower power Plant located on Ridge Road just outsidepresent day Newark’s limits! These companies attracted thousands more residents by creating jobs right here right in town! Today’s neighborhoods developed primarily around these factories but many others started out small - like Intermezzo which began life as simply four houses on Ridge Road next door to WEC Headquarters back in 1922 before becomingRB&H Jewelry & Watch Co., Inc., One Penn Plaza(originally an insurance company), First Baptist Church(now Roosevelt High School), Stroudsburg Bank(now Wells Fargo Bank), Potters Mill Park[which later became Montclair State University] etc... all started out small because manufacturing left substantial amounts of physical evidence behind wherever it happened! Not only did these places leave behind physical evidence but businesses also left behind social media footprinting information like Facebook groups and Twitter handles which we can still see today if we look hard enough ;) . Today there are nearly 2 million people living within easy walking distance or driving distanceof each other – making it one heckuva place to live!!!

English colonists came in 1683 and established a farmstead there called NetherlandtOWN (now known as Easton). In 1701, George Washington passed through that area on his way from Princeton to Valley Forge. In 1764, General John Wayne's army destroyed a British fort at NetherlandtOWN after victory over the British in the Battle of Princeton Hills. In 1837, North Plainfield became part ofaddon Township when it was formed from parts of Camden and Philadelphia counties. On July 1, 1881, it became an independent municipality within Middlesex County with its own government and police department under Mayor Averill Pickering.On December 14th 1962 North Plainfield achieved township status once again becoming one of only four municipalities in New Jersey to have this distinction (the others being South Brunswick Township (New Brunswick), Haledon Borough (Haledon Township), and West Paterson Borough (Paterson)). On May 8th 1984NJ Advance Media reported that local officials had been discussing plans to build a library complex near Route 29 as early as 1982-1983 when then-Middlesex County Executive Tom Gibbons responded favorably to an application for funding submitted by Mtuexter Associates Inc., which intended to develop land east of Route 29 on which the company planned to build a new library complex including office space for public libraries, retail units, and affordable housing units for low-income residents. The project never materialized but discussions about developing such a complex did continue until around 1990 when then-Middlesex County Sheriff’s Dept Deputy Director Rick Cataldo announced that he would be retiring effective June 30th 1991 leaving no Deputy Director position vacant during Gibbons’s final year as county executive; Cataldo had been with Gibbons since 1986 when he joined his staff as deputy director for real estate development/planning - having previously played key roles in developing much of what is now north central NJ’s commercial core including those landmark Broad Street Plaza buildings currently occupied by JCPenney & Macy’s located just across Broad Street from where we are standing today
