North Arlington, New Jersey is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 25,567 at the 2010 census. North Arlington is bordered by Princeton to the north and east, East Brunswick to the south and west, and Rahway to the northwest. The town was formed from a merger of two small villages on April 15, 1884. The village of North Arlington merged with the village of South Arlington on October 1st 1884. During World War II much manufacturing took place within what became known as "the munitions cluster" around Monmouth Junction Road/Route 20B which included plants such as Matson Rubber Products Corp., Bethlehem Steel Corporation, Chalfont Iron Works Inc., General Electric Co., Avesco Pipe Line Company etcetera that produced goods for both military use and civilian markets alike during that wartime period. With so much business activity taking place within its borders; you would think there would be little room left over for crime but unfortunately that’s not always the case... although things have changed somewhat since 2007 when Borough President John Fasano implemented new policing policies designed specifically toward reducing crime rates within hisborough thereby allowing him more freedom than ever before TO PURCHASE POLICE EQUIPMENT!!! Needless to say this caused quite a bit OF Widespread Protest (& Anger!) among many resident groups which I will get into shortly...
North Arlington was founded in 1798 by Captain John Smith as a small farming community on the banks of the Hackensack River. The original North Arlington Village consisted of only a few dwellings, and its first occupant was Capt. Smith's son-in-law, Jeremiah DuBois. In 1852, North Arlington became part of Morris Township and was renamed to Arlington Heights. In 1926, the village of North Arlington merged with neighboring Morris Township to form New Jersey's first township. The borough of South Orange also merged into New Jersey in 1926.
