Bullet history in this small town can be traced back to the 18th century when muskets were first used in warfare. The first bullets to be used in firearms were made from lead and copper. By the early 1800s, pistols and rifles had become more common, so bullets became an important part of weaponry. In 1827, Captain John Brownell purchased a rifle from De Witt Clinton for use by the militia at Monmouth County. This weapon was called the “Brownell Rifle” because its creator, Captain John Brownell, was born in that county. In 1834, Captain John Brownell mounted his rifle on a horse and rode into battle against Native Americans near Bound Brook Township. During the battle he was shot and killed. His rifle still hangs today at Garnet Hill Museum in Sayreville. The popularity of handguns led to increased production of bullet ammunition throughout America during the 19th century. Bullet demand meant that factories had to produce larger quantities of each type of ammunition than they could earlier have done simply due to their increasing popularity as firearms became more commonplace across society. New Providence, New Jersey is a borough in Camden County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 8,546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Thorndale, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area now known as New Providence was first settled by English colonists in 1624 as Northampton Township in present-day Camden County. In 1746, the township was reorganized to become Bergen Township and then Monmouth Township before being renamed New Providence in 1831 following its incorporation intoidgetownship of Camden. New Providence became an incorporated town on November 15, 1871; it replaced Monmouth Township which had ceased to exist as a municipality on January 1, 1870 due to lack of voter support. On April 14th, 1936 the Borough of New Providence merged with South Amboy and West Amboy Townships within Middlesex County to form a new borough with a total population of over 20K people becoming one entity for all purposes including education and civic services. As part of the conversion process for Bucks County from Essex County into Pennsylvania pursuant to Act 228 of 1984 (Pt III), portions ofMonmouth Township (now part of Edison) were annexed by Bucks County and inclusion within Borough limits was terminated effective July 1st 1977 without notice or opportunity for residents to object thereto; however efforts have been made by some residents through various organizations/groups currently engaged in litigation seeking annexation back into Monmouth Township proper since that time should either occur automatically pursuant to Pennsylvania law or through further application process available at www.epa.gov/boroughs

New Providence, New Jersey was an English settlement on the lower Delaware River in present-day Pennsylvania. The town was founded by Sir John Smith in 1676 as a meadow on the site of what is now Ambler, Pennsylvania. On December 15, 1764, the town and surrounding area were evacuated during the American Revolution when British forces burned it to the ground. It was re-established in 1795 as part of Monmouth County. In 1834, it became a borough and in 1849 it merged with other municipalities within Monmouth County to form the city of New Providence. The population of New Providence declined from its peak in 1915 to its low point in 1930 before increasing again by 1945. During World War II, many factories were built in and around New Providence including munitions plants at Elizabethtown and Drawbaugh Arsenal; boatyards at Easton; and aircraft manufacturers at Willow Grove Park. In January 2009, Mayor James Fenton announced that he would not seek reelection due to health concerns. His successor Rudy Giuliani appointed Timothy Sibal as his replacement effective February 1st 2009 . Sibal has been unable to reverse the decline seen over the past several years during which median household income has decreased by $16,000 while rents have increased 3 times magnification since he took office
New Providence was one of the original planned towns in New Jersey. It was founded by John Woolridge and his brother Isaac on land that is now called Woolridge Township. The town was named for Sir Nicholas Aspinall, 1st Baronet, who donated land to the town. The first stores were built in 1818 and the first school opened in 1823. In 1830, the township was divided into two parts and New Providence became a separate town.
