The city has experienced waves of Immigration and Ethnicity since its founding: Germans (beginning with Lutheran refugees from Prussia), Italians (starting with Italian settlers who had fled persecution during World War I), Jews (starting with Sephardic Jews fleeing Spain during the Inquisition), Poles (coming after partitions of Poland caused by Russia), Portuguese (when this region became a Portuguese enclave following their defeat at Alcácer Brasília), Greeks (coming after gaining independence from Ottoman Empire) and Muslims have all contributed to its character over time. In 1990s there were allegations that local politician rigged Municipal Election which led to several protests across Northeast Corridor towns against then Mayor Brendan Byrne

New Brunswick is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 10,814 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Middlesex County and one of the six towns in New Jersey that are located on the southern tip of Long Island. The first English settlers arrived in what is now New Brunswick in 1664, when Sir George Carteret and his fleet landed there with 300 men to purchase land from the Lenape Native Americans. The area became part of Princeton Township until 1785, when it was designated as part of East Orange Township and then as North Brunswick Township. In 1834, North Brunswick was renamed as Edwardsville after General James Edwards who had helped lead America's victory at Saratoga Creek. In 1835, both North and South Brunswick were consolidated into one township under the name Edwardsville; however South Benson separated itself from Edwardsville in 1840 to form its own municipality separate from Middlesex County. On March 1, 1850, South Benson merged with neighboring Westmorland Borough to form a new borough which would become known as Newark during World War II due to its proximity to war-related activity within those boundaries (the city of Newark actually began occupying this territory back before that). On December 14th, 1879 Edison Electric Light Company opened their first light plant in what is now downtown Newark; this marked an important milestone for Newark since Edison originally provided power only to residents of East Orange and North Brunswick Twp., two adjacent municipalities within New Jersey. In 1916 approximately 60% of all manufacturing jobs were lost due to World War I while over 50% local employment vanished during the same time period because factories closed down or moved out of state because production centered around war goods instead of products that could be produced domestically. However starting in 1933 manufacturing started returning thanks to advancements made by Henry Ford along with other companies who followed suit such as Chrysler and GEICO who invested early money into research leading up to electric vehicles being developed specifically for American overseas markets (and eventually becoming commercially successful). Aspects which have contributed most significantly towards economic development include: transportation infrastructure completed via Route 202 (now Interstate 95), more than 20 major shopping malls built throughout Essex County since 1990 including Regal Mall (the largest mall ever built outside City Hall Plaza), energy production beginning with natural gasification back in 1957 when construction began on Rahway Generating Station making it one of the first large-scale nuclear facilities in North America; Rutgers University which has played an integral role both academically and professionally throughout many decades thanks largely to investment by alumni/foundation contributions dating back prior thereto – today RUHQ employs over 12000 people across various campuses statewide; numerous professional sports teams including NHL’s Philadelphia Flyers (founded 1946) & NJ Devils (founded 1974) have their origins here including multiple Super Bowl appearances each Season; Stroudsburg College having been founded here by Reverend John Houghton - today’s college offers undergraduate programs covering arts & humanities+ science disciplines totaling 25+.
