In 1865, General Nathaniel Lyon's Corps arrived in Morristown and began using rifles supplied by the rifle company. The rifle companies continued to make rifles until 1898 when they merged into the American Rifle Company which still makes firearms today.
Morristown, New Jersey is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 33,169 as of the 2010 census. Morristown is located on the Susquehanna River at the junction of Interstate 95 and U.S. Route 1A. The first Europeans to visit what is now Morristown were Dutch traders in 1624–25 who named it "Morgenstroom". The name may be derived from Dutch "morgen" (morning) and "strom" (stream). In 1795, developed land east of the Susquehanna River at what is now ramps 6 and 7 of I-95 became part of Morristown Township. In 1814, General John Campbell built Fort Necessity along with several other forts in present-day Morris Township to prevent British troops from entering America during the Mexican War. Later that year, American General James Wilkinson arrived at Fort Necessity and ordered its abandonment because he believed that Indian attacks would occur if European forces remained in America's capital city. The fortifications served as an artillery depot for American forces during theWar of 1812 and again during theAmerican Civil War; they also served as a supply stop for American troops marching through Morris County on their way into battle. In 1865, following the Union victory over Confederate General Robert Ewells at Gettysburg, George Armstrong Custer stopped his cavalry unit near Fort Necessity while traveling south through Morris County on his raid into Pennsylvania; aftermath some sources claim that Custer may have been killed by friendly Indians near Fort Necessity while seeking shelter from hostile whites living nearby inpresent-day West Alliserville Township when his unit reached there late evening on July 3rd 1865. In 1872, Englishman Alfred Bechtle donated land east of where I-95 now intersects US 1A for a sawmill complex known as Bechtle's Mills which became one of North America's largest farmers' markets until it closed in 1979 due to competition from larger supermarkets. The mills produced flour, feed grains and lumber until they ceased operations around 1970 when access to good quality land within commuting distance led to their demise; however a small subset of local people continue to farm produce out there today under various names such as 'Beach Haven Farms'. After years struggling with low sales volume due to changing economic conditions throughout much of 2000s Morristown was all but saved by entrepreneur John Ladd who purchased vacant lots adjacent to PA Turnpike exit 8 across from borough hall for $4 million dollars just before Christmas 2000 creating 'Laddtown' within minutes or so - giving birth not onlyto new businesses but also hundreds more residents moving into town soon thereafter including many young families eager for opportunities than had ever walked its streets before Though still struggling economically since2009 average household income has increased significantly makingMorristown one Of NJ's most prosperous towns by2010

Morristown, New Jersey was founded in 1764 by the Morris family. The town was named in honor of General George Washington and his wife, Anne Morristown. The first settler in the town was John Dickinson, who arrived in 1764. In 1814, the town became a U.S. Patent Town under Act of Congress No. 7 of that year.
