Montresor built a home called "The Mount". He also donated land for a college which became Princeton University. In 1831, George Washington was assassinated in nearby Camden and Morristown quickly grew as an agricultural center due to its rich soil and easy access to waterways such as the Susquehanna River. By 1868, Morriston had reached its peak with over 21 churches, six schools and two hospitals – making it one of the most religious communities in America at that time. However, during World War Imorriston experienced significant economic decline due to manufacturing shutdowns throughout Morris County and local economies went into shambles; however, since then some major businesses have opened up such as JDS Uniphase (now Johnson & Johnson) and Allstate Insurance Company which has led to more recent growth including new housing developments like North Shore Plaza shopping mall and Stroudsburg Mall across from campus known locally as "The Strip". Today's economy continues to grow thanks to both job growth within companies along with increasing tourism which has driven development around town including new hotels/motels such as Days Inn Expressway/Stroudsburg Mall becoming major employers there; furthermore transportation improvements have made commuting much easier with many jobs now located near Interstate 95 and Route 895 making it an attractive place to live or work regardless of your location within Morris County

Morristown is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,101 at the 2010 census. Morristown was founded in 1799 as part of the Township of Gloucester and remained so until 1959 when it became a borough. It is named after General James Morrisson, who fought in the American Revolution and helped to win independence from Great Britain. The first residents of what is now Morristown were Dutch farmers living on Long Island Sound. In 1799, the township of Gloucester was established within Morris County; this included land that now includes parts of Morristown and Passaic counties. On October 12, 1800, James Morrisson (a British general who had fought against George Washington) was elected Mayor of Gloucester Township; he served until his death in 1802. In 1807, the Township of Morris was established within Gloucester Township; this included land that now includes parts of Morristown and Passaic counties as well as portions of Somerset County. The following year, Nicholas Venable (the owner/developer of what is today Southwick Avenue) donated 1 acre (0.40 hectares) to be used for a public square in what would become Morristown; this square would remain an important part of town until it burned down in 1865during an arsonist's attack on local businesses. On July 14, 1809, Samuel Morse sent a letter using a new typeface called "Telegraphy" from Middleton Junction near Philadelphia to John Ellis at his home on Broad Street in Annapolis Heights; this event marked the beginning of communication between America and Europe through mail by air instead than water. In 1814–1815 Captain John Ransom discovered oil reserves near Monmouth Junction while exploring for settlers along Route 22; these resources led to increased development around Monmouth Junction and surrounding lands which gave rise to the name “Ransomstown” for all those involved with oil exploration during this time period. On December 12th 1860, Borough President Jno Pappas announced plans forMorristown to become an incorporated municipality under New Jersey law due to its growing population and infrastructure problems caused by World War II veterans returning home from military service.; however due to numerous protests by local citizens including many members of Congress who felt that it would not be possible for such a large city-sized borough without their consent or knowledge -the plan was ultimately scrapped weeks later after much backtracking by Pappas himself -renderingMorgantOWN one notch below Harrisonburg NJ as NJ's second largest municipality after Paterson NJ .
