Morristown is a small town located in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Morristown is the home of Morristown College and the Morris School District. The first permanent settler in what is now Morristown was Nicholas Biddle, who arrived in 1768. He built a log cabin on an site that would later be known as Biddle's Corner. With the area still being Agricultural until 1857, when it became part of Township 7th Ward, Morristown had no incorporated government until 1863, when it became part of Borough 8th Ward. In 1881, Borough 8th Ward merged with Township 1st Ward to form Township 2nd Ward. On January 1, 1922, Borough 2nd Ward split into two new wards: Northumberland and Southumberland. On May 14, 1974, those two wards were combined back into one borough again as Morristown borough; this time with an elected mayor and nine council members. On February 6, 1978- after years of planning- Mayor John Jaffe announced that he would not run for re-election due to health reasons but would continue to serve out his full term as borough president through February 3rd of next year from his temporary office at the Morris School District headquarters on West Ferry Road in Northumberland while he recovers from surgery performed November 15th previous year which caused Realmshipoma pulmonale (a lung infection). Councilmember Julius Matschewitz then won election to succeed Mayor Jaffe and served until December 3rd when he also resigned due to health problems which then led to his replacement by Councilmember Seymour Siegel who served until March 3rd when he also resigned due to health problems once again leading to Councilmember Harry Kapp’s victory over him for reelection effective April 3rd thereby becoming Borough President effective date In 2002-2004 a referendum was placed on the ballot asking whether or not Morristonee High School should be closed because it needed more money from itsmountainous tuition fees than ever before but failed by just over 50% percent Morris County has been ranked number one for job growth by "Jobs4Jobs" since 2007 followed by Camden County and Edison Parish respectively

Morristown is one of the oldest settlements in Morris County and was founded on November 7, 1795 by General Edward Mifflin as part of the township of Easton. On October 15, 1920, during World War II when Bethlehem Steel Corporation closed its plant in Elizabethtown (now White Plains), many Japanese American workers were forced into worksites near Morristown where they factories were located before being relocated to internment camps during the war. On April 10, 1954, after years of discussion by local leaders as well as representatives from neighboring townships about creating a school district for all residents within their jurisdictions due to increasing enrollment throughout Morris County resulting from increased industrial activity across the county line in adjacent municipalities such as Denville Borough and Metuchen Borough; themorriscountynjewsestablishmentofaschooldistrictwasagreementmadebetweenthelocalgovernmentofthedistrictandbetheydistrictmanagerinnewarkuntilDecember20th,[when]thatordertoend.[itself.] In 1968-1969 there were plans for a new high school which would have been built on land near Interstate 95 between Exit 20A (now US 1) and exit 20B (now I-95). However these plans fell through because funding could not be found from state or federal sources. In 1974-1975 it became apparent that an expansion project for Sayre High School across I-495 would become necessary due to rising student enrollments despite efforts by then Superintendent Driggs Sexton to keep tuition low while still providing ample opportunity for extracurricular activities including athletics[and]in 1977-1978 Sexton obtained state funding which led to construction of Sayre Junior High School which opened September 24th 1978 withcapacityforonly8 students[but]expandedlatertoakindhighschoolwhichhasanacronymiccapacityof25students].
