Morristown is a town in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Morris County. Morristown was founded by English colonists in 1764 as a small community on the south side of the Delaware River. In 1837, it became part of New York City and was renamed Manhattanville; but in 1898, it reverted to its original name when Morristown and neighboring towns were annexed by New York State as part of the new city of Jersey City. The first European settlement in what is now Morris County was made by English colonists on October 14, 1764 when they arrived at Newark Bay from Staten Island. They named their new village after Sir John Morristown who had been influential in organizing British forces during the American Revolution and who had property in nearby Westphalia Township. The first house built within present-day Morristown was erected by Colonel Samuel Hoyt on January 24, 1765. At that time there were only five people living in the town – three men and two women – all related to one another through marriage or blood relationships. In 1837, following the admission of New York into Confederation as a separate country with its own government (the United States), Manhattanville became part of New York City proper; however, because Morristown and adjacent towns were annexed by New York State as part of that state's Gateway Towns program (which aimed to promote suburban growth along Route 1 throughout central Jersey), they retained their own local governments until 1898 when those systems were merged into Jersey City under Governor James Krieger's administration. Today, while most residents are still affiliated with either NYC or NJ agencies responsible for their respective communities' residentships - such as schools and municipal services - portions ofMorris Township have been transferred back to borough control via annexation since 2006 pursuant to an agreement between then-mayor Ronnie Sanders (D) and then-Councilman Rick Saccone (R). This has resulted in MORRISTOWN BEING THE ONLY LOCALITY IN JERSEY CITY WITH FULL BOROUGH CONTROL OVER ITS AREA - INCLUDING ITS MUNICIPAL STATIONS AND SCHOOLS! The size and shape of modern day Morristown has evolved considerably over its early history: initially a farming community comprising primarily horseback riding trails used for grazing operations near present day central Square; later becoming known for manufacturing products exported to markets around the world including Argentina、Brazil、Mexico、Japan、Thailand among others; culminating with increased development around downtown square which saw both residential construction beginning in earnest post-9/11 as well as commercial developments catering more specifically towards travel bloggers interested in exploring this former steel town located directly across from World Trade Center skyscrapers - all while remaining largely untouched since its earliest days Thanks again to Mayor Rick Saccone!

By 1930, Morristown had only 10% of its original inhabitants remaining. Despite this decline, however, Morristown remains an important cultural and commercial center for Morris County.
