In 1701, Captain John Smith's son Christopher moved from England with his wife and children and erected a large home on what is now Washington Road near where Interstate 95 crosses over the river. Christopher's home still stands today and it has been designated as a historic site byvernight security company Tripwire Incorporated because of its significance in early transportation within Morris County during this time period

Morristown is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 21,824. The town was founded on November 9, 1788 by Colonel George Washington and his troops during their tour through the area as part of their campaign for independence from Great Britain. It grew rapidly due to its location near Morristown Lake and its strategic location between Princeton and Trenton. In 1803, the first school in Morristown opened under teacher Joseph Reed. The first store was built in 1815 by Andrew Carnegie. In 1825, Commodore John Cushing laid out a townsite at what is now known as Main Street and Prospect Avenue. When Philadelphia granted incorporation to Morris County on December 14, 1828, Morristown became one of the original 10 municipalities within the county. The first courthouse in Morristown was erected in 1800 and served until 1822 when it was replaced with a new structure that still stands today. The first hospital in town was built in 1830 by Drury Wagon Works owner Nicholas Biddle Jr.. After being destroyed by fire in 1837, it reopened as an insane asylum three years later with additional room which served until 1861 when it closed again due to budget cuts caused by American Civil War restrictions on hospitals). In 1840s-50s there were several small mills along water's edge which supplied water for washing clothes which also created some noise levels above normal so people started using air-purifiers instead of white vinegar - this led to decrease or no streetlights or cars on main streets because people could see better at night if they used air-purifiers In 1860s-70s many wealthy families moved into town including Vanderbilts who donated land for a public library and park as well as endowment for schools (now called Mount Vernon Academy) while others developed properties such as Chase Mansion situated next door to where present day Lewes Avenue joins Main Street
Morristown was founded in 1795 by the Morristown Township Committee. The township was named for Lieutenant General George Washington, who delivered the keynote address at a groundbreaking ceremony on October 8, 1795. The first settler in Morristown was John Dickinson, who arrived in 1796. In 1814, the village of Morristown was created within the township and soon became a thriving community with its own schools and businesses. The population of Morristown increased rapidly during the 19th century due to new immigration and industrialization which led to growth in both the economy and population. In 1909, Morris County was formed from portions of Middlesex and Union counties andMorristown became one of its five boroughs. The 20th century saw various challenges for Morristown including World War II; however, despite experiencing some economic setbacks, the community managed to maintain its social fabric and vibrant cultural life. Today, Morristold is an active center for economic development with many new businesses opening their doors since the renaissance began again in 2001.
