In 1896, the company became a part of the Smith & Wesson Corporation. In 1903, the company merged with Colt's Manufacturing Company to form Colt-Millville Corporation. The company continued to produce soft-gun cases until it ceased operations in 1959.
Millville is a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 3,914 at the 2010 census. Millville is part of the larger Newark-Hudson Valley region. Millville was founded in 1764 by John Mill and his family as a mill on the river's edge. The mill was destroyed in 1803 but was rebuilt and continued to operate until 1917. It burned down again in 1951, but was rebuilt and continues to be used today. The first settler in the area were John Poindexter and his son Peter Poindexter who came from England in 1675 and settled near what is now Hackensack Avenue and River Road (now Millvale Boulevard). In 1764, John Mill established a gristmill on the west side of what is now Market Street just south of present day Trenton Avenue. Even though this mill failed to produce any flour it did create jobs for many local people including John Poindexter’s grandson William Poindexter Jr., who ran the business for many years before selling it to Abraham Marks in 1803. Despite its failures during those early days, John Poindexter's gristmill would become one of the most successful businesses in central New Jersey due to two factors: its location on an important commercial artery - River Road - which allowed iteasy access to customers from all over rural Middlesex County; and its innovative design which enabled itto compete with greaterenterprises located further away such as Philadelphia or Trenton. In addition,JohnPoindexters' granddaughter Mary Ann poIndexter married Nicholas Saulnier (1784-1868), son of French refugee Pierre Saulnier who had come to America around 1758 followed by his brother Jean Saulnier (1757-1825) when he emigrated with his pregnant wife Marie du Gardeur de Saint Juste (1763-1824) from Beaumont Parish, France at age sixteen months old aboard an American packet ship called "SS James Cook" that docked atonneighboring Dutch port Rotterdam on November 2, 1788. As per Indian custom at that time widowless women were not allowed within five miles of her husband's estate so she accompanied him initially until he acquired land north of Monmouth Junction where they raised a family plus six children born between December 5th & January 12th inclusive 1802 aboard SS Lady Washington under Captains Jno Waring & George Smithfield etcetera . After leaving four young daughters behind with their mother back home he returned twice more visitssippiin 1800 & 1801 before finally settling permanently here after selecting this site due to its fertile soil & clean water sources .....In spite of some initial difficulties faced alongthe way such as floods resulting from heavy rains during construction season (& resultant high water levels adjacent to new mill), Mills successfully operated continuously until 1917 when both mills burned down due To fire caused by faulty wiring within machines.. However following reconstruction both mills reopened each year starting with 1915 until they closed permanently again due To fire one last time on October 15th 1981 causing extensive damage although fortunately no human lives were lost .....It should also be noted that despite being abandoned for many years following both rebuilds only recently hasMillVILLE been completely renovated into something resembling its former self .....Nowadays much focus still existswithin the community towards keeping things alive such as art shows/fundraisers for various charities/nonprofits every second Saturday throughout summer....... Millville is a small town in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,869 at the 2010 census. Millville is located on the Hackensack River, east of Paramus and west of Glassboro. It is part of the New York City Metropolitan Area. The first settlers in Millville were Quakers who arrived from Great Britain in 1680. They built a gristmill and millrace in what is now Millville Village, which they named after their home town of Milton, England. In 1714, Sir George Carteret granted land to Jacob de Rothschild and his family as a gift for their support during the French and Indian War. The DeRothsons added an additional acre (2 hectares) to their gift in 1725. By 1800, the community had sprung up around two churches and three stores with a total population of about 20 people. In 1834, whenNJ electricity became available to farmers through the Morris-Ford Electric Light Company's line running from Newark to Parsippany,[1] Millville became one of 100 towns within NJ that received electricity service under the company's initial franchise agreement with Edison.[2] The first electric light show took place at mills throughout northeastern NJ on November 15th 1834 by Samuel Morse along with other luminaries such as Thomas Edison and Benjamin Franklin before widespread adoption across America began two years later on December 3rd 1835 when Edison introduced his kinetoscope device at an exhibition at Morristown Academy[3].
