There have been target ranges in Millville since the 1800s and they continue to be used today. Gun targets vary in size from about 12 inches to 18 inches wide and they can be made from any type of material, including plastic or metal. The first target range in Millville was established by George Beemer in 1824. Beemer was a businessman whoowned a mill on the south side of town. He built a shooting gallery that he called the “Fenway”. The Fenway was located just east of Main Street on what is now First Avenue. It was also home to Beemer’s tannery and other businesses that operated around it. In 1828, Isaac Pappas set up his own shooting gallery near the old mill on Third Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues. Pappas had connections with several wealthy men in Millville, some of whom had purchased land around the mill site. His Shooting Gallery became one of the most popular target ranges in town during its early years. In 1849, David Nevin opened his own gun range at 710 Second Avenue north of Millville Township Hall. Nevin had started out as an agent for Ladd & Co., an American firm that manufactured Firearms at their factory in Philadelphiacked across Broad Street from where today’s First National Bank building stands (now known as FNB Plaza). When Ladd & Co went bankrupt in 1848, Nevin took over their business and continued making firearms until his death in 1861.* * One source claims that Nevin may have personally owned as much as 20%of all firearm production within Pennsylvania during his lifetime!* In 1850, Nathanial Broun set up his Own Guns shop next door to Nevin’s store on Second avenue nearpresent day Market Square Drive* * Thisgunshopwasveryimportantbecauseitprovidedagoodsourceofsuppliesforthemillownersouthsideofthevillage(*note:NathanialBroundied1865)** In 1892, Averill Harriman built himself a large Shooting gallery called “The Big Top” which adjoinedNathanialBroun’sgunshoponSecondavenuenearMarketSquareDrive(*note:AverillHarriman Died1911)* In 1916 Arthur Hirt erected an electric rifle stand adjacent tohis exploitation lot near present day North Star Road (*note:ArthurHirt Died1976) In 1951 Julius Kapp founded The Kapp Gun Range which still operates today Finally, mention must be made of Peter Goetzke who constructedoneofthelargestguntargetsin New Jerseysince1800fordream-style Targets were FIRST introduced into America at this spot!(see photo below*) Gun Targets Over Time

Millville is a small, rural town in Sussex County, New Jersey. The population was 1,917 at the 2010 census. Millville is located on the east bank of the Raritan River and is bordered by Middlesex Township to the north, East Brunswick Township to the south and Newton Township to the west. Millville took its name from one of its founders, Samuel Milliken. The first settlers in what would become Millville were farmers who arrived around 1775. By 1800, milling had become an important part of the economy in this area and mills were built in both Millville and nearby villages such as Readington. In 1809, mill owner John Hildebrandt donated land that became known as "Millvale". The village began to grow rapidly due to its location and easy access to water supplies. By 1830, there were over 100 people living in Millvale. In 1851, James Fenton sold his interest in a gristmill located near present-day Weequahic Falls for $10k dollars which he used to start a new mill called "Fenton's Mills" on what is now Old Bridge Road. This became one of the most successful mills in central New Jersey due to its high quality flour products. In 1885, Fenton sold his business again for $30 million dollars which made him one of the richest men in New Jersey history. In 1916, following World War I efforts by President Woodrow Wilson to improve trade with Germany (the allies), a German immigrant named Wilhelm Kapp founded an agricultural Implement Company on Main Street that manufactured parts for American trucks and cars during World War II under license from Ford Motor Company (the enemy). The company survived into post-war years when it merged with International Harvester Corporation (IHC) in 1957 until it ceased operations entirely within five years due mainly to economic recession; however remnants stillexist today along Route 11 corridor between Newton Park Borough and Readington borough

In 1895, mill owner Nicholas Mill donated land to the town for a library. In 1900, the library building opened and served as the center of community life for many years. In 1928, the mill burned down and destroyed all of the buildings within minutes. However, despite this setback, Millville continued to grow and become an important commercial center in southern New Jersey until after World War II when it began to lose its importance due to changes in technology. However, since then there have been several efforts made to bring back some of what once characterized Millville as a thriving community with active business owners and cultural events that keep things alive including an annual summer festival which features music and art from around the world.
Millville was founded in 1795 by John Mill and his wife Anne. The mill was the first in the area and is still in operation. It processed flour, malt, copper and other minerals for local homes and businesses. In 1822, the mill burned down and the town was abandoned. The mill building was replaced by a new one in 1909. The old mill is now used as a museum.
