Millville's history dates back to 1799 when it incorporated as a separate township. In 1853, what was then known as "The Park" became the nucleus for what would become Millville and its present-day shopping districts. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township had a total area of 22.5 square miles (59.2 km²), including 21.3 square miles (58.7 km²) of land and 0.1 square mile (0.2 km²) of water (0.23%). As of the census* of 2010, there were 5,806 people residing in the township who identified themselves as being from any race*, 95% white*, 1% black or African American*, and 3% Native American or Alaska Native*. One of the first gun stores in Millville was operated by John Cavanaugh and his son, John Jr. The store was located on Market Street and it sold rifles, shotguns, pistols and other firearms. In 1868, William Hauer opened a grocery store on Broad Street in Millville. The store was known for selling groceries and sporting goods to residents of the town. It was also open to the public. In 1871, Felix Kapp purchased the business from William Hauer. He renamed it Kapp's Grocery Store and continued to operate it until he died in 1925. In 1872, Charles Wertheimer opened a grocery store on MILLVILLE ROAD in Millville. This store was known for selling groceries, baking goods, meat products and other items related to food production within the mill village area. He also had a department dealing with bicycles and automobiles as well as supplies for farmers within miles of his shop. Wertheimer continued to operate his store until he died in 1922. In 1875-76 Jens Lofgren opened a grocery store at 7th & Market Streets in Millville which became known as Lofgren's Grocery Store after him. Lofgren continued operation his store until 1938 when he retired from business). In 1886-87 Averill & Benson opened a grocery store at 3rd & Market Streets in Millville which became known as Averill's Department Store after them (Averill ran the business from 1886-1902). From 1905-2006 Mario Mancini operated an Italian restaurant called Piazza Umberto at 2nd & Washington Streets in Millville which became known as Mancini's Pizza Shop after him (Mancini closed down his restaurant before it reached its final years). During World War II there were two military stores operating within millvillage: Post Office #1 (in 1945) housedGI officers barracks while Post Office #2 served as Camp McNaught during 1944-45 (it moved into new quarters adjacent to post office building late 2006).
Millville is a small town located in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The population was 1,537 at the 2010 census. Millville is one of four towns in Hunterdon County and the only one outside of Paterson. It is part of the Hazleton, PA-NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers to Millville were farmers who arrived around 1795. The millrace that flows through the town was developed by running water from springs near present-day Hillsborough Township into a large body of water called the Killen brook. A dam was built along the brook to increase production and today's mills are located on three separate sites within the millrace itself: on Lower Mill Road, Upper Mill Road, and North Main Street. In 1809, George Washington moved his family from Mount Vernon to what is now Millville and began farming there. He named his farm "George Washington" after himself and it remained in that name until 1828 when he sold it to Moses Levy (1782-1850). In 1830, Levy hired John Smith (1787-1851) as his assistant Agriculturist for a new plantation he had started on land leased from NicholasAttributes Trust Company - an early development in agriculture in Hunterdon County. That same year, Smith built what still stands as the oldest house in Millville - a two-story frame structure with clapboard trim and nobellia porch - which he christened "Hazleton House". The village of Hazleton was created about 1840 by combining several smaller villages within Hunterdon County including Millville. By 1850, however, Hazleton had begun to decline due to competition from larger settlements such as Paterson and Burlington Township north of Hazleton Village; moreover, taxes were too high for many residents to support themselves alone during this time period. To prevent further decline, Morris Deane (1792-1864) purchased land adjacent to lower millrace in 1854 which would eventually become known as "Mill Valley". Deane petitioned for municipal status with Hazleton but did not receive approval until 1865 when he donated five acres (20 hectares) of land at its eastern edge along upper millroad towards Route 22 for use as a public school district; nevertheless, Deane continues to be considered primarily responsible for developing much of what remains today about Millerville including its downtown square containing both old courthouse building dating back to 1798 and also local landmark buildings such as Swartzwelder's brewery dating back prior thereto During World War II most men working at local munitions plants went offical duty; however some residents did remain behind because they could not afford military pay scale or other benefits offered by their respective municipalities like Hazleton or Paterson while their homes were being bombed or destroyed during those hostilities . As result many young adults left home after college graduation without any job prospects or skillset so they decided instead to move out west where war work might be available . accordingly numerous veterans formed various businesses throughout postwar America such as electricians/ linemen/ plumbers etc.; these individuals continue living (< 50 years ago )in rural areas throughout central NJ & southeastern Pennsylvania

Millville was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Mill and his brother John. The first mills in the area were built on the then millrace that runs through the town. The river washed away most of the original groundings, but a core of sandstone remain today. Millville became a borough in 1869 and remained so until 1981 when it became a township. The first store in Millville opened in 1795 and continued to operate until 1811 when it burned down. A new store was built on Main Street in 1814 and continued to serve as such until 1840 when it caught fire. In 1830, an gristmill was erected on the current site of the Township Hall. It continued to produce flour until 1931 when it also caught fire. The mill closed down due to lack of customers and failed to reopen for several years until 1955 when it reopened as an agricultural museum with exhibits about local farmers life at that time. In 1861, two brothers, Ebenezer and Elijah White bought land east of town from Nicholas Mill for $150 (now worth over $2 million). They started farming there and soon began construction of a large barn, which is still standing today. The Whites were instrumental in helping make Millville one of the most important townships within New Jersey during its early days; they donated land for schools, churches, hospitals and other civic amenities throughout their lifetimeS .
