Bullets also began being used by individuals as projectiles for their own personal use. By 1851, bullet production had increased significantly in Millville and bullet prices were regularly cheaper than those for other weapons. In 1907, two brothers named John Tappan started manufacturing bullets under their trade name “Tappan” Bullets. They continued to produce bullets until 1951 when their business folded due to high competition from other manufacturers. The town was destroyed by a fire in 1814, but it re-emerged as an agricultural center during the 19th century. In 1865, Millville became an incorporated village and remained so until 1972 when it merged with neighboring towns to form Ridgewood Township.

Millville, New Jersey is a small town in Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,374 at the 2010 census. Millville is located on the southern edge of Monmouth County and is bordered by Neptune Township to the north and east, Middletown Township to the south and west, and Asbury Park Township to the northwest. The first settlers in what is now Millville were Dutch colonists who arrived in 1683. They named their village after John Miller, an Englishman who had landed there earlier that year as part of a trading expedition under Governor Thomas Wentworth. In 1785, George Washington visited Millville while on his way from Newark to Trenton. He observed that "the people here are very kindly- disposed...I found them much attached to their old settlements." In 1814, a group of British soldiers under Lt. Colonel James Smith discovered land grant for 3 miles (5 km) southeast of present-day Millville which they called "Ligonier". Smith built a farm on this grant which he named "Mill Valley". The residents of Ligonier quickly began building homes around their new settlement; by 1820 there were about 50 houses in total. By 1830 only 10% of Ligonier's population remained living within its boundaries; most had moved away to join other villages dotting across Monmouth County during the early 1800s when roads were not yet built or when it was difficult for farmers to get goods into and out of the area. During Reconstruction following the American Civil War (1861–1865), many mill owners in northeastern Pennsylvania lost their businesses because cotton production fell off after Union troops destroyed mills near Atlanta due to abolitionist efforts there. Some mill owners decided to stay open but others closed down because they could not compete with TEXTILE INDUSTRIES COMPANY OF AMERICA products coming out of South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. In 1875, General Electric bought much of textile industry assets including mills at Ligonier & West Orange in Passaic County from several large millowners including John Atherton (the largest owner). When GE took over these plants it decided that Knitweave Mills should be closed because it did not have enough looms available for producing cloth diapers needed for GE's new line of laundry machines called Automatic social service machines (ASSM). After some discussion between management and workers over whether or not ASSM would be automatedÎan event generally known as "The Massacre"Îworkers voted overwhelmingly against automation on December 7th 1880 by a majority margin; however GE continued with plans for automation even though this result meant jobs would go unfilled until 1983 when ASDM operations finally ended due to budget cuts at GE's laundry plants worldwide! It wasn't until 1984 that all Knitweave Mills sites were closed down one by one eliminating 513 jobs directly affecting 400 individuals plus indirectly many more through contracts manufacturing items like fabric screeners used in clothing manufacturing such as blouses/pajamas etc., door knobs etc., doorknobs etc., chair legs etc.. . . . . It was also during this time that local funding sources such as corporate taxes became unavailable so municipalities throughout NJ had difficulty paying for services such as streetlights Municipal governments are currently struggling with how best fund public services given increasing deficits caused largely by state government spending reductions Annually since 2002 Morristown has spent more than $10 million dollars just trying TO FIX THE ROADSIDE ACCIDENT THAT WRECKED THEIR PUBLIC SAFETY FUNDING MILLVILLE'S CITY DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY MR NORMAN HARRISON SAYS IS NOW TAKING PREVAILANCE OVER PUBLIC HEALTH AND SIGHTS WANTING TO GET BACK TO MARKET VALUE ZONING
The first European settlers in the area were Dutch, who arrived in 1664. The township was organized on March 11, 1824, from parts of Middlesex and Hunterdon counties. It was named for Nicholas Millville (1781-1854), a wealthy landowner and political figure in the region. The Township’s first post office was established at the mill on the Monmouth River. In 1847, it became part of Union County. On January 1, 1850, Millville became a town when it united with nearby West Orange to form what is now called Union Township.
