Millville is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The population was 9,575 at the 2000 census. The town was incorporated on February 14, 1875. The first settlers in Millville were John and Ann Noble who arrived in 1797 from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. They founded a gristmill on the present site of the mill village. Another early settler was James Biddle who came to Millville in 1799 from Bedford Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He erected a small gristmill on the riverbank east of present-day Main Street and named it after his home town of Bedford (now Philadelphia). A third early settler in Millville was Nicholas Gammage who arrived in 1800 and built a log cabin near what is now Court House Square. He later opened a store there which became known as Gammage's Store. The first post office at Millville was established on March 13, 1814 by William Fenton with the name "New Hope". It changed its name to "Millville" on October 15, 1838 pursuant to an act of the New Jersey General Assembly entitled "An Act for organizing certain townships within this State." The post office remained at that location until 1886 when it moved to Ridgway (now Easton). In 1875, MillVILLE incorporation occurred due to passage of an act by the New Jersey Legislature entitled "An Act to improve and beautify the streets of township villages." Prior to that time township villages were unincorporated areas located outside of any township boundaries - they were considered part of the surrounding communities but without voting rights or representation therein. The incorporation ordinance provided for mills Village could be constructed anywhere within their borders - regardless of whether they bore municipal or other corporate powers or whether their residents enjoyed any type of local governmental services such as water supplies or schools. As one result of incorporation and growth within MillVILLE over ensuing decades many businesses quickly sprang up downtown including restaurants such as Subway and Dunkin' Donuts; theaters like Regal Cinemas and United Artists; attorney offices; medical clinics; factories; etc.; all while maintaining close ties with their community counterparts back home across town via social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter (@villageMillvale)

On May 15, 1933, the township-millville borough was renamed Elizabeth Township-Millville. On November 3 of that year, the township and millvillage were annexed by Ridgewood Township.
