Metuchen, New Jersey is a small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hazleton–Allentown–Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Metuchen Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The first Europeans to visit what is now Metuchen were Dutch traders and missionaries in 1624 who named it "Middelburg". In 1701, John Montresor founded Montresor's Inn on the site of present-day Metuchen Township. In 1719, George Washington and his army moved west from Valley Forge through Montgomery County towards Philadelphia through Metuchen Township. On October 14th (the "Day of deluge"), when Washington reached Newtown Square in Princeton Township he ordered three water barrels capped with cannonballs to be placed there as an impromptu memorial to "all those that have lost their lives or families during this memorable campaign". On November 2nd (the same day), General Washington and his army arrived at Bound Brook near Trenton; here he issued orders for all inhabitants of Princeton Manor east of Bound Brook Creek not to leave their homes between Trenton and Camden without first obtaining leave from him. In 1814, President James K. Polk called upon the people of Hunterdon County gathered around Bound Brook Cricket Scoreboard near Old Bridge to celebrate American Exceptionalism by raising their beer steins high above their heads while singing patriotic songs such as "Hail Columbia!" At 3:00 P.M., President Polk addressed a crowd estimated at 10,000 persons including 250 mechanics’ apprentices working onstage at Old Bridge Engineering Workshops on Northumberland Avenue which had been built by Abram Noyes & Sons shipbuilders under contract with the US Navy during World War I for use as an officers’ mess; these workers supervised construction of Liberty Hall which became operational on July 15th 1916). This event signaled beginning of America's Golden Age! Today marks United States Independence Day! The parade route begins at 4:00 P.M., proceeds down Market Street until it reaches Four Corners Monument whereupon traffic is halted for a moment while drums and fifes open up Patriot Hymn #1; then continues along Market Street past Union Station before concluding at Independence Plaza across from Community Bank

Metuchen, New Jersey is a town in Hudson County, New York, United States. The population was 26,523 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous town in Hudson County and the second most populous town in New York after Yonkers. The name of the town is derived from the word "meeting" or "conference." Metuchen was founded by Dutch settlers in 1675 as a small trading post on the border of present-day Newburgh and Perth Amboy. In 1802, it became part of Bergen Township. In 1815, it became part of Albany Township. On April 15, 1827, it became a city under the administration of New York City. When Albany died in 1850, its townships were divided among its various municipalities and Metuchen lost all but one vestige of its municipal government until 1861 when it regained full municipal status as a borough within Hudson County with jurisdiction over all but two of its original six wards (the remaining three wards were merged with Rockland County in 1898). By 1900, Metuchen had become an extremely large city with over 500 residents and had annexed many smaller villages throughout what is now Hudson County including East Rutherford and Plainfield which formed part of the larger city's rapidly growing commercial district known as Midtown Manhattan during this time period. With continuing suburban growth into new neighborhoods such as Northvale and Southvale since World War II; however less residential development taking place adjacent to downtown due to zoning laws enacted at that time; Metuchen has remained largely immune to gentrification processes typical of other Uptowns across America both before and since 2011 when Mayor Ras Baraka announced plans for mixed-use redevelopment along Main Street between Broadhurst Avenue (now Hackensack Avenue) and Route 27 just west of Times Square which would result in about 1 million square feet (93% hotel/apt/apartment) be developed over 10 years including orchestral halls/ concert halls/variety theaters etc.; creating more than 100 jobs directly / indirectly resulting thereby increasing daytime non-residential activity levels by almost 20%. Metuchen Municipality dates back to 1795 when Native American hunters discovered gold near where modern day Main Street meets Route 9 southbound at Raritan River crossing The first meeting between European settlers from Kingston on Long Island and some Lenape Indians took place on October 14th 1795 at Fort Wayne where forty five men met with four hundred Indian men led by Uncas Kngaonkamounkee who presented his claim for land east side stream below water’s edge opposite White Sands Creek - site today occupied by Joe’s Coffee & Donuts restaurant Dutch traders such as Hendrick van Riemsdyk arrived November 5th 1795 from Cattaraugus Bay with 400 men across 7 ships seeking passage to Nassau Van Riemsdyk claimed 8 parcels totaling 3 miles long by 2 miles wide containing “alluvium” or rich deposits he called “Wadsworth Plains” On February 14th 1800 John Jacob Astor bought 4 lots free from any taxes levied upon them for $2500 each from Nicholaso Carafa who operated an estate called West Point on Staten Island then leased to Colonel James Dearborn who sold off parts thereof including what are now Broadway & Second Avenues On November 6th 1800 Samuel Morse located a body Of Water On Ridge Road From What Is Now Cedar Hill To Which He Claimed Right By survey And Survey Line Completed March 2518 At This Place There Was A Stone Mural marks The Location Where The Town Of Metuchen Was Platted As We Know It Today…. After surveying this area usingdragoon boats they made bold proclamation that here In lays Erie Canal Then Called The Mohawk River named For General George Washington Who Built That Pathway Two Hundred Years Ago Along Side Of Which Are Located Some Large Grasshoppers Or Natives American Museum located one block north uptown on Ninth Ave., facing Eighth St., openedSeptember 24 1909 exhibits early 19th century artifacts Chinese merchants built warehouse there c1960 thru 1970
Metuchen was a small town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. It was part of the Bergenfield Township until 1834 and then became part of the Uniontown Township. The first settler in Metuchen was Nicholas D'Angelo. The population was about 350 people in 1800. The Metuchen Railroad began service to Metuchen from Ridgefield, Connecticut on November 3, 1854. The railroad ran through today's metuchengrouping area but only reached as far as the village of Holyoke before terminating at North Station in Ridgewood Junction. The early history of Metuchen is closely intertwined with that of Uniontown Township and its namesake river, the Hackensack River. Uniontown Township was formed on April 12, 1797 when Middlesex County were split into two sections by an act of the Legislature; South Ward being made up of Newark and Elizabeth Townships while East Ward including all of Bergenfield Township (except for what is now Metuchen) remained within Middlesex County. Uniontown quickly became known as one of the most active communities on Long Island during its early years due to its close proximity to points east and west across Long Island Sound - particularly Brooklyn and Manhattan - as well as access to navigable waterways like the Hackensack River which helped make it a popular destination for farmers and workers alike. By 1834, however, Uniontown had lost much of its activity due to increasing trade with Philadelphia along with technological advances; railroads had become increasingly important both for transportation and marketing purposes throughout America during this time period. Nevertheless, many residents continued to live here until after World War II whenurban growth began encroaching upon their villages- eventually leaving them voiceless amid redevelopment efforts that continue right up until this day..
