The first generation of ar15 upper receivers were designed in Metuchen, New Jersey. The designers at Colt Firearms Corporation believed that the magazine-fed AR style rifle was the future of American firearms and they began to design these rifles in earnest in the early 1970s. The first successful models were created by Gun Barrel Technology and became known as the Colt Model 70. This design featured a tubular receiver with a 10-round capacity and an overall length of 43 inches. The guns were chambered for .223 Remington and .308 Winchester rounds. In 1978, Colt Firearms Corporation’s parent company, America’s Arms Inc., merged with Sturm Ruger & Co., making it one of the largest gun manufacturers in the world. Metuchen, New Jersey is a borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 14,541 at the 2010 census. It is bordered by Union City to the south and east, Ridgewood to the north and west, and Paterson to the northwest. The borough was formed on April 12, 1911 from part of Westwood Township. The name Metuchen comes from two Dutch words: "mei" (place) and "chensia" (a post). The first settler in what is now Metuchen arrived in 1681. He named his land after his patron saint: Saint Michaels of Metuchen. By 1815 there were over 100 people living in Metuchen - most of whom were farmers or fishermen who grew crops or raised livestock for their own families. However, as transportation methods improved with railroads reaching NJ early in the 20th century, more people began commuting to jobs in New York City and Philadelphia. In 1916 metropolis became an official term used for Middlesex county which includes all of Bergen County except Montclair and Hackensack; this change was occasioned by political leaders pressure to anglicize local names so that they would sound more like those of nearby municipalities such as Newark Liberty International Airport In 1951 a referendum resulted in the creation of North Union Township which merged into Metuchen following Census data that revealed a large Polish-American community had arisen within its borders – one that would continue to grow throughout much of the 1970s when larger areas outside South Jersey converted to Protestantism thanks to Operation Crossroads efforts spearheaded by then-Governor Christie As early as 1847 there were complaints about gambling operations being conducted along routes leading into Paterson from eastern Long Island; these operations aroused particular attention because it seemed likely that Native Americans who inhabited these areas might be able to purchase goods at low prices while also gaining access to liquor which could be sold freely within English settlements . On October 10th 1851 a group consisting of senators John Atherton (D), James Kavanagh (D), Moses Norris (I) – together with representatives from several other towns including Cliftonville (now Rahway), Dumontville (now Hillsdale), East Orange etc., met at Bloomfield village hall under the auspices of “The Patriotic League” chaired by Senator Atherton in order “to investigate certain abuses committed along those roads leading into town” – these roadblocks having been erected ostensibly for public education but actually serving as conduits for illicit sales On January 25th 1862 General Robert E Lee led Confederate troops through town during their march up Frome Road towards Trenton resulting in extensive damage both inside and outside theaters being destroyed as well as numerous homes including many belonging to members of Congress In 1865 an act was passed providing for township government within limits prescribed therein . As development continued throughout ensuing decades various Boundaries were set forth including one defining an extent for present day Maple Shade Village – boundaries designed primarily duelling between rural Plainfield residents seeking annexation & suburban Paramus/New Milford citizens reaping benefits associated with growing industrial enterprises particularly textiles mills expanding rapidly near Steel Bridge area Throughout this period numerous elections took place including five mayoral contests taking place concurrently over three terms starting on November 7th 1898 thru May 5th 1899 inclusive; four Borough Council seats opened up with new apportionment resulting from merger eventuateing on April 12th 1911Amongst others running were incumbent Mayor Augustus Bogan Jr., Josephine Hutchinson Gibbons (& her husband George W Gibbons Sr.), Edwin L Whitehead (& his successor Arthur Ziegler)); former Borough Councilman Franklin D Ostroff (+new appointee John Hildebrandt); Republican nominee Charles J Donnelly (+Republican Hugues de la Roche%); Green Party candidate Louis Pappas

Metuchen, New Jersey is a town located in the Middlesex County of New Jersey. As of the 2010 census, the population was 41,569. The Metuchen ZIP code is 07102. Metuchen was founded by Dutch colonists in 1664 as an unincorporated community on the banks of the Delaware River. It became a borough in 1876 and then a city in 1912. In 1960, it became one of five towns in Bergen County to be combined with Paramus to form New Jersey's only magisterial county seat. The merger resulted in Metuchen becoming part of Union Township until it annexed Paramus on January 1, 2018. The name "Metuchen" comes from ancient Germanic words meaning "meadow." The first settler here was Nicholas de Metz who arrived about 1664 and named his farm after his home city of Meixenburg, Germany (now Mönchengladbach). He also built a mill at this location which still stands today and processed flour for local farmers until 1856 whenstones began to be produced at nearby Englewood which led to increased demand for flour from Metuchen residents and so Englewood Mill closed down around 1840s as well. In 1876, Borough President James Phelan recommended that Metuchen become an independent borough due to its growing population and prosperity; however, because Paramus lacked zoning authority they were not able to join up with Metuchen until 1912 when they did so through joint ownership with Ringwood Borough before becoming their own municipality once again effective January 1st, 2018
