Metuchen, New Jersey is a small town in Union County, New Jersey, United States. It was founded in 1764 by Pringles and his family. The Metuchen Arsenal was established in 1876 and produced shells for use with the American Civil War. After the war, ammunition production increased as a result of firearms manufacturer’s development of new technologies to produce more accurate munitions. In 1925 Metuchen became an incorporated municipality. In 1960 it withdrew from Union County and became an independent borough. The first ammunition factory in what is now Metuchen were two buildings on the corner of Meetinghouse Road and Cedar Streets which were built by Nathaniel Pringles in 1764. Ammunition production began around 1876 when General John Burgoyne ordered the manufacture of cannonballs to be done at Newark’s Raritan Arsenal due to increasing hostilities between America and Central Europe over trade routes. The manufacturing process involved drilling large holes into rounds made from lead or brass so that they could be fired off easily with cannons located throughout Northeast America during the Revolutionary War era. Thereafter, many other manufacturers followed until 1926 when it reached its peak with three plants producing 4000 rounds per day each at a cost of $500 per ton! Ammunition production slowly declined after World War II as technology improved but recommenced again starting in the late 1970s due to surging military demand for new types of artillery rounds including armor-piercing incendiary projectiles used against enemy tanks and armored vehicles during Operation Desert Storm (1991). By 2002 Ammo Unlimited had sales totaling $4 billion worldwide! Metuchen, New Jersey is a small town in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,953 at the 2010 census. The area that now makes up Metuchen was part of the lower Township of Easton until 1834. The township was formed from parts of two other townships: Southampton and Westville. In 1838, the westernmost piece of land in what is now Metuchen was annexed by North Brunswick as part of a larger landgrabbing campaign led by George Washington Hughes. By 1850, all but 1/3 of the township had been annexed and it became known as "North Brunswick Township". Metuchen's history dates back to 1795 when settlers arrived on the Monmouth Peninsula looking for cheap land to farm. They named their settlement after Sir Isaac Newton's birthplace in England – "Newtonown". By 1800, there were about 150 people living in Metuchen and nine taverns operated along Main Street (now US 2). In 1802-1803, Captain John Stevens founded Stevens' Tavern on Meetinghouse Road (now Patton Boulevard) which became one of America's earliest post office buildings. In 1824-1825 General James Van Buren traveled through Northumberland County during his gubernatorial campaign and stopped at Metuchen for lunch before continuing on his tour. During his visit he ordered an apple pie from Captain Stevens' tavern and took home several pieces for himself and family members back home in Cambridge, Massachusetts. After Van Buren's inauguration as president in March 1830 he called upon Congress to appropriate $2,000 for improving roads throughout New Jersey; this money eventually went towards building the first road into Metuchen from Princeton via Egg Harbor Township (now Elizabethtown). On May 9th 1830 a group of men organized as "The Masonic lodge No 4" laid the cornerstone for what would become Old Central Presbyterian Church located at Meetinghouse Road & Market Street today; this church would be dedicated five years later on October 6th 1835 by Reverend David Weems with assistance from local attorney James Geddes]. On November 15th 1840 Unionist candidate John Purdy won election to fillVanBuren's seat on the Delaware Valley Railroad Board while still living in Newark; Purdy moved permanently to Camden after winning so he could continue running elections there instead of returning home each week to Pennsylvania where he lived before becoming governor. This event helped solidify Essex County’s pro-Union tilt during the early 21st century although some residents still maintain strong ties with Dutch Reformed Christianity which has its roots dating back centuries ago in what is now Metuchen. Connecticut Colony founder Nicholas Baynham also resided here briefly prior moving to Burlington circa 1799 before settling near Springfieldburgh PA following British Invasion that year . When Trenton gained statehood in 1870 it absorbed most portions including North Brunswick Township including much of what is now Metucen including Old Central Presbyterian Church although some remains within present day Elizabethtown Borough limits

During World War II, Metuchen played an important role in the Allied war effort by providing essential goods and services to local civilians. After the war ended, the town underwent significant redevelopment which has since made it one of North Jersey's most vibrant communities. today, Metuchen is known for its rich cultural heritage and unique architecture which makes it one of North America's most unique cities.

In 1828, Metuchen became the capital of New Jersey. It served as the state's interim capital from 1834 to 1838 and again from 1849 to 1860. The city experienced significant growth during the 19th century, with an increase in population from 3,500 to over 20,000 people. During World War II, Metuchen played a critical role as one of the largest military installations in New Jersey because its location made it difficult for German forces to move supplies into the state.
