According to Census data released in December 2009, Manville had a median household income of $68,531 (+/-$10,801) compared to $53,992 (+/-$14,722) for Newark Community District which includes Paterson and most of Elizabeth Township; while its population density was 1,596 people per square mile (-371% vs+1% for Newark Community District) it had a median house value of $174,-/$251K (+/-$48K) higher than Paterson's median house value of $123,-/$257K (-27%) While education levels varied little across both groups- 61% reported some form of college education or above versus 56% for Newark Community District- real estate values were skewed more heavily towards wealthier families with an average home worth over $300K (-36%). According to 2007 Census figures released by NJ Advance Media prior to Boroughhood referendum results being announced on November 5th2007 – Manville had a total population of 635 according to township counts alone whereas Newark's population stood at 1 million- this switch would put Manville just shy of making it into NJ’s top 10 wealthiest municipalities with populations over 100k residents! With that said if you did include all races within their boundaries then they would have been right behind Trenton (#2), Camden (#3), Plainfield (#4), Hackettstown (#5) and South Orange #6). In fact when you take into account households that only include one race there are six other municipalities ahead of them including Rahway (#7), Atlantic City ($8M+/year/$30M+) Edison ($9M+, Hasbrouck Heights Expansion Zone - roughly 2M+/year/$50M+) Monmouth Junction ($10M+, Kenilworth Hills Subdivision - circa 2M+/year/+1 million people + 800 jobs +/-) Amboy Township finally makes it onto our list after years missing out due largely due to lacklustre housing development potential…..
Manville was a small town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States that was located on the north bank of the Passaic River. The community was founded by two Dutch families in 1795 and soon became an important stop on the river's trade route. It declined after 1800, but by 1820 it had resumed its former importance as a manufacturing center. In 1847, Manville became one of the townships formed from parts of Hunterdon and Morris counties. The village ceased to exist as a municipality in 1957 when it merged with East Rutherford into their new township form.
