Manville, New Jersey is a small town located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,584 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Camden–Wilmington metropolitan area. The town was founded by Hugh Manville in 1781 as a settlement on the east bank of the Delaware River opposite what is nowPhiladelphia. In 1811 it became part of the newly created County of Bucks and was incorporated as a borough on October 15, 1847. On April 14, 1888, Manville passed through an act creating Borough Township of Camden which included portions of what are now Manville and North Camden Streets in Philadelphia. In 1916 Manville became one of 10 townships within Philadelphia County to be merged into the new municipality of Philadelphia; however, this merger failed to take effect because two-thirds of residents voted against it. On November 2nd referendumwide ballot measure was passed that proposed merging all ten townships into Philadelphia with only North Camden remaining outside its boundaries On January 1st 2019 Philadephia announced they will no longer merge with any more townships and will instead keep them all individual municipalities
