In 1827, Congress appropriated $5,000 to purchase two cannons from Nicholas-Jacques Conte & Co., makers of ship's artillery balls (later known as cannon balls). The new cannons were meant to be used against HMS Warrior (a British warship) during the American Revolution; however they never saw action due to their faulty construction. Later on in 1827, an additional appropriation was made for three cannonballs each for one hundred men called forth by General Washington during his return trip from Quebec City after his successful campaign there against Great Britain. These cannons became known as New Jersey Cannon Balls because they were procured from New Jersey residents who had volunteered to provide such munitions during the Revolutionary War. But even before these cannons became operational, Targets had already begun appearing throughout central and northern New Jersey – including Manville! Manville is a borough in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. Manville is part of the Camden–Rahway–New Brunswick, NJ Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Manville was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. He named it "Mangiovese" after his captain and mentor Menzelio de' Mangieri, who had been with him on his voyage from Italy to America. In 1681, Colonel John Norris Surveyor of Northumberland Township filed a plat for what is now known as Norris Park which included land that would become Manville. In 1701, George Washington visited Morristown and saw the new courthouse built there by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and dedicated on November 6th by George Washington himself during his stay in Morristown for the inauguration of James Knyphausen as Governor of New Jersey on January 3rd 1702. In 1807, Elizabeth Winchester moved from Gloucester Township to take up a position as teacher at Sayre School in Manville; she developed an early interest in education and served as Superintendent from 1827 until her death in 1847/48. That same year also saw the opening of First Presbyterian Church (laterFirst Baptist) in town which soon became one of the most popular churches around with its services conducted throughout the township weekly starting February 2nd 1828; this church still meets monthly today inside First Presbyterian Church Building located off South King Street across from Public Library). In 1840s a man named Isaac Schummer started doing business as Jourdan's Cleaners which operated out of two locations - one near where Post Road crosses Route 22 today (now called Cumberland Avenue), and another on White Horse Pike just south of present day Second Street (now known as Pleasantview Avenue). With growth came more businesses - many including breweries - such as Ewing's Brewery founded in 1850 by Elijah Ewing and Phebe Ackermann selling lager beer before Prohibition made it illegal to sell alcoholic beverages anywhere within New Jersey excepting Newark Liberty Station where beer could be bought only through state liquor stores Census results reflect that Manville had a population of 2,471 residents according to 1870 US Census data while Borough Council estimated population at 2,885 comprising 914 males and 715 females being citizens or residents registered with government agencies

Manville is a town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,569 at the 2000 census. The town was founded in 1785 by George Manville and his family. It is named for John Manville, the first resident of the area. The name "Manville" originated from George Manville's father, who named his son after himself. In 1814, John Auldman bought part of what is now Manville from George Manvilless wife Lydia. He renamed it Upper Township and erected a gristmill there on the stream that flows through the town today. In 1821 he also built a schoolhouse and added a store to the village center which became known as Lower Township. By 1830 Lower Township had six stores and fifty-six residents while Upper Township had only one store and twenty residents. In 1844 John Fenton purchased all of Lower township from Auldman for $2,000 cash plus three lots of land where he built Fort Washington on Whitehead Creek near present-day Allentown (the original site of Hackettstown). He changed the name of Upper township to Manor because Manor Lane ran east-west through it (it still does). In 1865 Manor Lane split into two forks when William Halsey bought part of Manor Lane from James Ritchie (the original owner) for $1,500 cash including some 200 acres (80 hectares) along its length that he donated to him as a parkland reserve later called Halsey Parklands National Wildlife Refuge which includes parts of what are now Asbury Park and Bridgewater Heights in Middlesex County NJ - Today it borders Pennsauken Borough NJ on its south side with East Brunswick Borough NJ on its north side forming Hunterdon County PA border: AfterWilliamHalsey died in 1925 his estate divided among 4 sons - Harry Halsey got Harry Halsey Parklands National Wildlife refuge & reservoir including manor house & other Lots within boundaries; Lester Wolkowitz got ridlewood national wildlife refuge near Asbury Park & Preserve #1; Irving Wendell Gotch took over lot adjacent to Buttermilk Hills & Preserve #2 together with much more land surrounding them all but never managed to build anything close thereto so they sold it back again thru gift deeds to various people over time until finally being leased out by Audubon Society in 2006 who manages it currently
