In 1960, Glynis Ivey became the first female Mayor of Hunterdon County when she won election against incumbent John Pappas. She served two terms before retiring in 1966 to become Vice President of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where she remained until her death in 1998. After Ivey's death,amontee O'Reilly became Mayor pro tempore and did not run for re-election because he felt that he would have been unable to win without her support

Manville is a borough in Mercer County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 census, the borough had a population of 21,569. The name was given to the town by Nicholas Manville who settled in 1730 near what is now Manville Township. The first European settlers in what is now Mercer County were Dutch Protestants from Rotterdam who arrived in 1624 and named their new land "Wallemandt" after Count Hendrick van der Zee. In 1730, Nicholas Manville purchased land adjoining present-day Manville Township from the heirs of John McClendon for £200 ($40). He built a log cabin there and named it "Manville". The first public school was founded here in 1814 by Samuel Hynes and his wife Mary Menendez. In 1835, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Robert E. Lee called on Morrisania residents to support him against Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Morristown because he felt that they could not match his forces numerically or militarily. MANVILLE responded with military enlistments totaling 100 men; however only two men actually served under Lee (and one resigned before hostilities began). In 1875, part of Manville Township became part of Cherry Hill while the rest remained within Mercer County until 1975 when it too merged into Cherry Hill.
Manville was founded by Christopher Manville in 1689. The town became a borough in 1892 and was incorporated as a city in 1955. The population of the city increased from 36,782 to 72,521 during the decade of 1990. In 2001, Manville was named one of the "10 most livable cities" in the United States by Forbes magazine.
