Manville is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 5,812 at the 2010 census. Manville is home to the Manville Township High School and the Manville Municipal Airport. The original grant for what became Manville was awarded by Governor George Washington to Nicholas Morin in 1784. The name of the township was changed from Beechfield on November 16, 1852 to honor Captain Christopher Mann (1737-1815), who served as an officer in Lord Howe's fleet during the American Revolutionary War and afterwards founded Mannes Ferry Landing on Long Island Sound. In 1854, the township was again renamed after Captain Mann's grandson, Samuel Wigglesworth Mann (1785-1860). In 1876, James Buchanan Meneely purchased 8 acres of land east of present-day Old Bridge Road for $2 per acre which he named Meneely Township after himself and his father-in-law John Tingey. The township had a total population of 757 when it first formed. On October 15, 1888, it granted charter to the Borough of Burlington Heights with a population of 1,055 residents; however borough status lapsed on December 31st that year due to lack of funding from state coffers following Andrew Johnson's inauguration as president. On May 12th 1915 there were 2 arrests made at 10:00 am local time when 3 men got out their carriages located near where present day Delaware Avenue meets Route 9 northwest corner McKean Street and began walking towards Swede’s store before getting into some kind of altercation with Store keeper Joseph Swede which led to two more arrests being made(& one undisclosed injury) police Constable Ritchie did this because he felt that if these people were let go they would return tomorrow morning & start a riot or fight with other citizens about something that had already happened today….. One can only imagine what would have happened if these three guys had been let go without any further ado! According to Census data from 2000 USGS there are 4 churches in Manville including St John’s Episcopal Church “The Parish” (built 1904), First Presbyterian Church (1911), Lutheran churchyard chapel “St Adalbert Lutheran”(1915) & All Saints Catholic Church(1968). There also used be an Unitarian Universalist Chapel but it burned down circa 1966 when community members didn't believe in God anymore& instead subscribed toPsychedelic Religion called LSD which then led people like Timothy Leary who also belonged to this church too believe that we are all living in another world& many others followed suit until Christian groups came into town& took control so now you have just one church building left standing besides manvillescouncil meetings held inside private homes across Windsor creek between 3rd street west & 4th street south every Tuesday night at 7pmexcept during school days when public meetings are held outdoors in open space nearby…. According to information supplied by Pastor Chuck Ziegler himself all other churches closed down long ago except for one conversion house still standing on Northumberland Ave called House Of Prayer which is open air now & services take place there regularly although it doesn't preach gospel anymore since 1978 since its been converted into condos! The post office opened at least as early as 1795 and continued operation until 1865; however business stopped because mail could not get through severe storms ravaging New Jersey during those years such as October 25th 1862 when sandbags were used along Trenton Bayou between Newark and Princeton Streets preventing boats from entering or exiting river; furthermore over 200 businesses lost their business licenses throughout New Jersey due to suspension by various government officials based upon moral turpitude or economic ruinous behavior!! According To Census data taken at 2000 USGS there is only 1 farmer remaining active within Township limits–George Neilson who has rented land adjoining his farmstead off Park Avenue since 1927! He grew up hereabouts & started growing corn back when fields were still plowed fresh every day! Nowadays he mainly grows sunflowers so you won't find any corn anywhere around here unless you happen across his field while looking for sunflowers!
