The population density was 1,611/km² (3,459/mi²). There were 6,564 housing units at an average density of 499/km² (1,688/mi²). The money was used to build miles of streets and parks as well as create water systems and maintain public sidewalks. Today, Manville is home to several theaters and restaurants as well as two high schools - Harding School District #1 which serves students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade and South Hackensack High School which offers studentsgrades ninth through twelve.
Manville was founded in 1727 by John Manville. The first post office at Manville was established in 1729. In 1821, the town was renamed to honor General Andrew Jackson. In 1902, the United States Post Office moved from Menville to Jersey City and the name of the town changed back to ManVILLE.
