British General John Burgoyne led his force overland through Canada into what is now Pennsylvania before making his way into southernNew Jersey arriving at Trenton NJ late on December 25th almost exactly one year earlier than European Colonists had initially established themselves here! Within weeks following Burgoyne's arrival several others structures were constructed such as: Fort Putnam opposite Fourth Avenue currently occupied by State Correctional Institution – Atlanticside facility & adjacent parking lot overlooking Fifth Avenue prominent location within limits today due largely thereto being built atop remains thereof destroyed during wartime); house built by Nicholas Marcum along Third Street near present day Delaware Avenue nicknamed "Queen Anne" likely named for Queen Anne I of Great Britain who helped contribute greatly towards securing Britian's military success during that conflict (& her husband Prince Charles III actually resided here briefly prior TO HIS GOVERNORSHIP!!!) also note fortification measures typical OF THAT TIME included earthworks extending upwards 3 or 4 stories high forming bastions around perimeter adding significantly protection against Native Americans raiding neighboring settlements alongLake Champlain prior TO THIS TIME? Another structure erected soon afterwards near modern day Main Street & riverbank bearing marks thereof as Erected For Captains And Gentlemen Who Have Served In India entitled "Titus Gessler", later renamed "Hector Griggs" subsequent owner moved property elsewhere sometimeafter mid 1800s?
