In 1848, the town of Long Branch was founded in Monmouth County, New Jersey. The first store in town was opened by Nicholas Young. In 1949, the township of Long Branch merged with Garden City Township to form a new township, Monmouth Borough. On November 8, 1957, the townships of Garden City and Monmouth Borough were combined to form a second new township, Brick Township. On December 16, 2001, the municipalities of Monmouth Borough and Brick Township were dissolved and re-created as independent municipalities within Monmouth County. The following year on May 20th,[1] an agreement was reached between the NJ State Police and local law enforcement officials in order to implement more common security measures for gun owners in both municipalities. Since its inception as a small community located near Princeton Junction (the county seat),Long Branch has been home to many notable events related to firearms safety and security. Some examples include: On October 15th 1966,[2] two gunmen opened fire at a long range shooting competition hosted by Long Branch Rifle Club; only one person was shot dead[3]. On December 2nd 1978,[4] three handguns were stolen from an unlocked car parked outside a convenience store in Long Branch;[5][6] this event is considered to be one of the most brazen thefts ever committed against firearms locksmiths in New Jersey.[7] The shootout that took place on July 22nd 1984[8][9][10][11][12] at G&M High School left four people dead including three gunmen who had entered through an unlocked door; this event is considered one of the worst mass shootings involving firearms in New Jersey history. In early 2004,[13], five handguns were found hidden inside an abandoned house in Garden City Township after being reported lost by their respective owners; this event is considered one of the earliest cases where someone successfully stole handguns from another individual’s property.[14][15][16]

The first white person to settle in Long Branch was James Caldwell who settled in 1764. He and his family were among the original settlers of what became Monmouth County. In 1812, John Ewing bought of land from Eleazer Morse for $1,000 and opened the first store in what is now Long Branch Township. The town's name was changed to Long Branch by an act of the New Jersey General Assembly on February 20, 1868. The longest continuous English-speaking source of residents has been Quakers from Philadelphia who arrived during the Revolutionary War and continued to live there until 1830 when they moved out as part of a civil changeover that led to consolidation of all English speaking communities within New Jersey under one government entity – Pennsylvania Consolidated Act (1802). When Europeans started arriving in large numbers during the early 1800s, they brought their horses with them and began plowing up what are now sectional fields (the North Side being especially heavily wooded) into open space which would be developed into villages or towns over time due to easy access to water supplies and markets. As more people came along, so too did new industry including breweries and tanneries but also waves of immigrants looking for religious freedom or better opportunities: Irish Catholics coming from Ulster; Poles seeking refuge from Russia; Italians escaping famine back home; Germans moving westward through Wisconsin Territory during times of political instability caused by Austria’s loss at Leipzig in 1809; Dutch farmers migrating northward during this period called “Pioneer Times” because some had journeyed as far as Albany! All these people contributed something unique – culture – to any given community/village/township etc., making it an integral part of America’s melting pot experience! As things evolved over time with brick buildings replaced by wooden ones (a sign that society was changing), transportation became an important factor contributing to community growth (railroads came along), jobs were available throughout various industries thereby creating social stability which encouraged businessesowners/workers alike to stay put even if prices for goods went up or down based on supply/demand changes amidst economic cycles like those experienced during World War II when steel production skyrocketed after Japan destroyed Pearl Harbor! Today we can see many examples throughout our country where small Businesses have taken over many formerly manufacturing sectors providing good quality products at prices that reflect today’s economy while still maintaining service levels above average! Another proud example is Midstate Glass on Route 9 just outside town limits serving customers since 1979(!), without Borders ever having set foot inside Long Branch! What a great place to live!!!
