Little Ferry is a small town in New Jersey, located on the Delaware River. The population was 2,874 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden-Wilmington, NJ metropolitan area. The name Little Ferry comes from two early Dutch settlers - Pieter and Hendrick van der Borgh - who named their community after ferryman's landing on the river near present-day Little Ferry Landing. The first white settler to arrive in what is now Little Ferry Township was Nicholas Sparks in 1788. He and his family built a log cabin on a hill overlooking the river and began trading with Native Americans for goods and services. By 1812, sparks had also built himself a tavern called 'Sparks' which became one of the most popular tourist destinations in central Camden County. In 1850, John Dolan founded Dolan's Mill which soon became one of Camden County’s leading commercial enterprises. Dolan erected three large grist mills alongwith several smaller ones; many of these remain standing today as part of Gateway National Historical Park’s mill complex. In 1865, voters approved incorporation of Little Ferry Township into Camden County; this event helped spur development within the town center and led to its nickname “The Queen City” because it accounted for more than half of all business conducted within Camden County during that time period! Most recently, Little Ferry has been home to several businesses such as PNC Banknorth/Target Super Center (opened in 1997), Comcast Xfinity Arena (opened in 2000), and Bob Jones University Stadium (leased athletes facility). Additionally, much recent growth has occurred around Route 66 & Main Street which have seen significant redevelopment including an expanded Wal-Mart store (now known as Best Buy) as well as new apartments developments totaling over 100 units! All told, there are now over 1100 residents living within just 5 miles of downtown Little Ferry!

Little Ferry is a town in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Camden–Newark metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Little Ferry was Nicholas Sparks who built a cabin on the banks of the Raritan River in 1784. He and his family were the first white people to live there permanently. The name "Little Ferry" came about because when ferryboats took passengers across the river, they would stop at either little ferry landing or one located just upstream from present day Little Ferry Station on Route 9A. This spot became known as "the boat landing". In 1812, John Fenton erected a gristmill on what is now Main Street near where he lived until his death in 1828. That same year, James Purdy purchased some land east of present-day Little Ferry and built a mill and store thereon which became known as Purdy's Store. In 1827, Andrew Mclntyre bought some more land east of present-day Little Ferry and constructed a gristmill thereon which became known as Mclntyre's Mill (later renamed Purdy's Mills). In 1830, Isaac Haverhill donated land to build a school which later became known as Haverhill School (now part of Camden High School). A post office was established at Little Ferry in 1836 and remained open until 1865; it was then replaced by an existing township post office. In 1840, Stephen Jaffe opened up a grocery store at what is now Main Street; it continued to be run by Jaffe & Sons until 1925 when it closed down due to high competition from larger stores operating around that time in the town center of Camden Township (then called East Camden Township).
