In the early 1800s, Little Ferry was a small town in New Jersey. It was located on the Delaware River and consisted of just a few houses and a few businesses. However, because of its location, Little Ferry became an important center for ammunition production. Ammunition was used in many wars throughout history, and Little Ferry played a pivotal role in both the American Revolution and World War II. The first ammunition production at Little Ferry began in 1814. The factory was built by James Caldwell and his son John Caldwell Jr. James Caldwell had come from a family of gunsmiths who had been active in manufacturing firearms since the 17th century. In 1814, he founded Caldwell & Sons Gunmakers, which manufactured pistols, rifles, shotguns, cannons, etc. until 1865 when it merged with Smith & Wesson to form sort of “Big Four” firearms manufacturer mentioned earlier (Winchester also produced arms at this time). The First World War saw dramatic changes in ammunition production due to new technologies such as shell casings that could be reloaded multiple times without having to leave home or go through Customs (this allowed for increased efficiency during wartime). Ammunition companies like Remington were able to capitalize on this new technology by producing high-quality shells withstood repeated firing without becoming corroded or misshapen over time. Little Ferry is located on the Delaware River and is bordered by Newark to the north, Elizabeth to the east, Union City to the south and Hackensack to the west. The Township of Little Ferry was formed on December 17th, 1814 under an act of Congress. On July 1st, 1859 it became a Borough by an act of Assembly. The name originated from a ferry that crossed the Delaware River between Newark and Elizabethtown (now known as East Newark). In 1834, Elijah Hicks built his first log cabin here which still stands today as part of Village Green Historic District. In 1685 Samuel DeWitt married Mary White who resided in Northumberland County; their daughter Martha DeWitt moved here with them around 1700 along with other colonists from what is now Burlington County. The white settlers were not happy about this so they started a movement to have their own government so they could make their own decisions without depending on Great Britain for guidance. They called themselves "The Committee for Better Government" or "The Company". On September 25th of that year they held their first meeting at Mr Hicks Cabin where they adopted a petition calling for independence from Great Britain On October 15th of that year they met again at Crown Point Bridge where they decided to move forward with forming their own government They set up shop in what is now known as DeWitt's Keep before moving into what is now Borough Hall In 1838 John Dickinson moved his family from Bucks County into Southwark Township in Middlesex County and he purchased land here including what are now parts of Little Ferry He began building homes which can still be seen today including current Borough Hall which was built in 1840 His son-in-law Richard Stockton also bought some land here and continued building until his death in 1861 According to the 2000 United States Census there were 3,401 people living in Little Ferry borough when it formed on December 17th, 2002; however according to DNAinfo analysis conducted by AncestryDNA last August 5th - 10th of this year,[1] only 2 individuals claiming European ancestry lived within five miles (8 km) of Little Ferry during that time period: one individual claimed Dutch descent[2][3] and one individual claimed Irish descent[4]. With such small sample sizes it is difficult but not impossible to verify these results convincingly given enough detail about those two individuals' life histories

Little Ferry is a small town in Hudson County, New Jersey, United States. The community is located on the north bank of the Hackensack River between Mount Pleasant and Sayreville. The population was 1,782 at the 2010 census. Little Ferry is part of the Bergen County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in what would become Little Ferry were five men from England who came overland in a wagon train on November 8, 1776, to purchase land from the Dutch in what is now West New York (New Jersey). They named their new settlement after Peter Minuit's ferry landing on Long Island Sound which they had seen from their journey across North America. The original village consisted of just a few homes and a store built by Nicholas Bicknell onetime owner of an estate near Sayreville. By 1822, however, there were around 20 residents and four stores. In 1827, John Henniker set up a gristmill at present-day Easton Village and began to produce flour for local markets. At this time little or no transportation existed between Little Ferry and larger towns along the river such as Paterson or Clifton; passengers walked or took wagons all the way to Newark (then called Elizabeth) where they disembarked at either Pier 41 or 42 before continuing their journey by boat back upstream to New York City or points beyond. In 1828, William Cohan opened a ferry landing oppositepresent-dayEaston Village for passengers coming downriver from Rahway and Middletown on horseback through today's Rahway Bridge crossing into Union County; passenger ferries continued service until about 1850 when railroads became available with more reliable means of transportation. At first only locals traveled downriver by ferry but traffic increased so much that Cohan decided to build his own wharfageXMaintained until 1964 when it was replaced by Interstate 280 south of town limits

The first people to live in Little Ferry were the Lenape Indians. They originated from present-day New Jersey and settled there in the early 16th century. In 1714, the English founded a trading post at Little Ferry, known as Fort Oglethorpe. The fort was destroyed by a French attack in 1738, but its ruins remain today. In 1746, the British established a military base at Little Ferry after they captured Fort Oglethorpe. The British used Little Ferry as their winter headquarters during the Seven Years' War. After their war ended, the British abandoned Little Ferry and moved their winter headquarters to Princeton Junction on Princeton River. In 1802, John J. Monmouth sold land at Little Ferry for $100 to George Washington and his brother James Monroe. The area became part of Westchester County when it was created from portions of New York and Pennsylvania in 1824. During World War II,Little ferry was one of five sites chosen for airfields in northeastern New Jersey because of its strategic location between Manhattan and Philadelphia (the other four sites were Maywood Heights Airfield in Queens Borough; Mount Airy Airport near Salisbury; Newark Liberty International Airport). In 1951, UMD's Science Laboratory moved from Newark to what is now called Camden Campus within sight of little ferry mouth on Delaware Bayou where it would remain until moving out into its permanent home on Clearwater Drive adjacent to Rutgers University afterwards which also served as our research facility until recently with satellite studio inside while office building off campus continues along waterfront doing same function currently being used by NJPARC (National Institute of Standards and Technology) across river
