Lindenwold is a small town in Sussex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. Lindenwold is located on the southern border of Sussex County and is bordered by the towns of Dumont to the north and Weequahic to the east. The township covers an area of 11 square miles (27 square kilometers). The first Europeans to visit what is now Lindenwold were Dutch settlers in 1624 who named it "Willemstadte." A group of French colonists arrived in 1665, also called Willemstadte. In 1713, English colonists founded a settlement called Westminister near what is now East Brunswick. One year later, they renamed it Lindenwold after Sir John Sinclair's estate in Perthshire, Scotland. In 1802, sections of Township 2 were detached from Township 1 to form separate boroughs: East Brunswick (now Borough Park), Dumont (now Dumont Beach), and Weequahic (now West Quogue). In 1834, all three boroughs were re-established as single municipalities with their own governing body: the Board of Chosen Freeholders. From then until 1967, when they were merged into one municipality known as Newark Liberty Community Union (NLCU), each borough had its own police department and fire department. Lindenwold has experienced significant economic development over the years; manufacturing plants have been located there since World War II including Champion Corporation's munitions plant that operated from 1945-1953 and Chrysler Corp.'s engine plant that began production in 1951. Other major employers include Prudential Financial Inc., Mastercard International Incorporated (), Verizon Communications Company (), McGraw-Hill Companies (), PepsiCo (), Reynolds American Tobacco Company (), Trinity College () and Rutgers University (). According to the 2010 United States Census Bureau report*, Lindenwold had a total population of 914 residents consisting of 729 males and 331 females; however this number may be higher due to underreporting due to lack of proper identification or participation by individuals living in rural areas which are not counted within municipal boundaries

Lindenwold is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 9,722 at the 2010 census. Lindenwold is located on the eastern edge of New Jersey and bordered by Princeton to the north, Morris Township to the east, Union Township to the south, and East Brunswick Township to the west. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Middlesex County were Dutch settlers in 1624. They named their land "Willemstadt" (later renamed Lindenwold). In 1764, British soldiers burned down a home in Lindenwold while they were raiding nearby Princeton. The settlement was soon abandoned because of these events and because it was too dangerous for anyone to live in an area where there were frequent Indian raids. In 1814, Nathaniel Hackett erected a small cabin on what is now Main Street inLindenwold after he arrived from Canada with his family.hackett became involved with local politics and served as Mayor of Lindenwold from 1827 until his death in 1829. He also founded the first library inNew Jersey and donated its building blocks to Rutgers University's School of Arts and Sciences in 1840. During World War II, many residents helped contribute materials for munitions factories located throughout New Jersey; some even worked directly for American companies such as Ford Motor Company and General Motors plants outside Newark or Trenton. Many people who lived near those factories also lost their lives during war-time production processes; one resident reported that “walking five miles through No Man’s Land [the battlefield] just before dark you could smell gas” . At various points along Route 29 between Camden County and Middlesex County – including within present-day Lindenwold – large stockpiles of munitions existed ready for export should hostilities recommence elsewhere within Europe or North America (a potential scenario considering Germany's rise as a global power during this time). However no action was ever taken due to concerns over potential German retaliation if any conflict did occur across international borders
Lindenwold was founded in 1746 as a small farmstead by the Lindens. The first house at the site was built in 1750. In 1800, the family of Nicholas Linden moved to Lindenwold from Morristown and renamed it after themselves. In 1807, John Witherspoon donated land to the town for a public square and in 1818, the first school was built. Street names in honor of members of the Lindenwold family include: Nicholas, John Witherspoon, Anna Maria (Wright), Jane Goodspeed (Dixon), and Lydia Wright (Creamer).
