On July 25, 2009, Mayorof Lindenwold announced plans to construct a new library in town which would house both municipal government and local historical materials as well as additional public areas for use by residents and visitors alike including an amphitheater/festival space with seating for 4500 spectators and a gymnasium/soccer field with seating for 5000 people capacity which is scheduled to open in 2020 During World War II many members of the United States armed Forces served here such as Lieutenant General James Vail who commanded American forces supporting Allied troops fighting in Normandy amd Admiral Chester Nimitz commanding US forces opposing Japan's assault on Leyte Gulf

However, since 2000s has seen significant redevelopment with new businesses opening up along Route 9 east of the town line between Asbury Park and Middletown Township
