Lindenwold, New Jersey is a community located in Union County, New Jersey. It was founded in 1837 by Colonel George Washington Linden and his family. The population of the town increased from 100 to 5,000 between 1875 and 1925. By 1938, the town had developed into an agricultural center with a dozen or so businesses. However, during World War II the economy changed as munitions production increased in nearby Camden. In 1946, Lindenwold became part of Camden and its citizens began to move away from agriculture towards new occupations such as manufacturing and services.However, the community still retains its rural feel with large tracts of undeveloped land. Today, Lindenwold is home to a few hundred residents who are engaged in farming and other traditional activities. The first optical accessory store in Lindenwold, New Jersey was opened by Harry Harkness in 1923. The store was located on the corner of Park and Third Streets. In 1927, the store moved to its current location on Broad Street. In 1957, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Jaffe bought the store and renamed it The Jaffe Store. They continued to run the business until 1991 when they sold it to their son, Sheldon Jaffe. From 1992-1996, The Jaffe Store operated as a combined book/photo/optical shop with two locations in Cherry Hill and Teaneck before moving to Lindenwold permanently in 1996.
Lindenwold is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 12,611 at the 2010 census. Lindenwold is located on thetown line of Perth Amboy and Woodbridge Township. The first Europeans to visitLindenwold were Dutch traders in 1624. In 1764, John Montresor built what was then known as "Montresor's Manor" on the present-day site of Lindenwold. He named it after his brother-in-law, the explorer and cartographer George Monmouth II. In 1833, Isaac Brock bought all of Middlesex County from Lord Carrington for $2 million cash and moved the county seat to Newark Liberty (now Union City). Brock had earlier acquired land east of Newark in what is now Garden State Parkway (Interstate 95) Valley Forge Road. The new county courthouse was completed in 1835 and became known as "Rochester's Courthouse." In 1840, James Kapp purchased all of Newark Township from Nicholas Bogdanovich for $1 million cash and moved the township seat to Lindenwold. Kapp had also acquired land east of Newark in what is now Garden State Parkway (Interstate 95) Valley Forge Road. The new township courthouse was completed in 1840 and became known as "Kapp's Courthouse." A second courthouse building was designed by architect Asa Gray but never built due to financial problems; it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1978. In 1865, Abraham Van Alstyne purchased part of Lindenwold from James Kapp for $500 each; he renamed it Van Alstyne Manor after himself. Van Alstyne used some money he had raised from selling products he made at his store near West Orange until he could buy more land at a low price from Governor Samuel Wabash Jr., who donated most ofwhat is now central Jersey to become Rutgers University campus area with aid from New York state legislature under Andrew Johnson during that time period when Rutgers controlled much property along riverfronts across path between NJ capital city Trenton AND Camden
In the early 1800s, there were few if any means of seeing through solid objects. There were some crude methods of illuminating things with light, but they were limited in their use and effectiveness. One man who saw this limitation was an inventor named Nicholas-Jacques Conte. In 1801, he invented a device called the conical mirror. This mirror used a convex lens to magnify images that were projected onto its surface. It could be used to view things such as books or pictures at a much greater distance than using simple Lanterns or small lanterns that only displayed faint images. Although the Conte mirror was not very effective, it was eventually replaced by other devices that did more effective job at visible visibility. These include the Fresnel lens and Lambertian reflector mirrors which became common during the 19th century because of their increased brightness and ability to see through solid objects at long distances

Lindenwold is a town in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The population was 8,541 at the 2010 census. Lindenwold was one of the original towns in Middlesex County and was incorporated on March 14, 1814. It is named for Major George Washington Linden (1759-1828), an officer in the Continental Army who served as lieutenant colonel during the American Revolution and then as a brigadier general in the 1st Infantry Division of General George Washington's army during the Revolutionary War. The first settler to arrive in what is now Lindenwold Township was John Allerton, who arrived from England with his family on November 16, 1788. Allerton built a log cabin on the site that remains today. In 1814, when Middlesex County was formed, all of its land south of Huntingdon Creek were included within Lindenwold Township. The first house built there was Andrew Fenton's Retreat House which he erected near where First Street and High Street intersection are today. On July 7, 1824, both sides of Huntingdon Creek were opened to settlement by means of Grants law #852 issued by Governor James Ketcham and Acting Deputy Governor Nicholas Biddle This opened up land to be developed for farms and settlements west of Huntingdon Creek including what is now Maple Shade Township Lindenwold became one of two towns formed from part of Madison Township on October 20th 1870 following results of a referendum conducted by residents of those towns along with South Brunswick township . On February 2nd 1871 , voters approved incorporation by vote of 531 to 152 . As part of this incorporation process , trustees chose Ackerholdt & Cook Architects (now Architizer) to design the town seal which has remained unchanged since its inception more than 50 years ago
